Its actually a quest spell which requires lvl 40. I fail to see how me making Examples of options there could be means I suggested SLS do all or any of those things. I am clearly establishing possibilities which could be applied to a system based on changing the function of the sphere based on which constelation type you casted it upon.

Biased opinion...is really rather redundant. It would be very difficult to get someone's opinion to not be colored by their experiences, preferences and prior knowledge.

Not quite. Photons have momentum, but not mass (in the standard way of expressing it) although they are effected by gravity and can actually have "impact." Usually I'd just cite E=mc^2 for energy/mass relationship and call it done. But they aren't just the same.

This statement alone suggests what I already expected; you don't understand. If you were somehow implying that I don't, please see my degrees (in physics and chemistry) Also, the test I gave my students today also suggests you are wrong, as they couldn't make what they didn't understand fact...

Your language is non-specific and redundant. Hydrogen is fused into Helium, causing a mater "imbalance" that is converted to energy via Einstein's famous equation. This energy is emitted along a frequency distribution we commonly call a "black body" spectrum. Some of that happens to be visible. The very sentence "heat, light and energy" is like saying "cake, cake and cake." Which is a lie.

Technically, we are made of atoms, who in turn are made of subatomic particles with strange and charming names, whose mass can be converted to energy should they be annihilated.

In the end though, (getting back on topic) magic typically reflects man's misunderstanding. And since its warm out during the day and cold during the night, my best guess people got the idea that the stars were cold. And thus they produce a "cold light." Please accept this answer and move on. QED

I had too much fun playing that game and being like "Energy is conserved!" Speaking of portal references, a student of mine decided her block on a incline plane would be the companion cube. It is influencing our culture...

...I think it'd be neat if with higher skill you could weave multiple constellations into a starlight sphere (giving it bonuses and such.) That would give growth potential (and MD training) while still allowing lower level mages to get adequate use from the spell.

Wow, I actually went back and read this annoying-to-read post, thinking I could get pumped for some SLS improvements...instead it broke down into a whine-fest about "how come the attacks are cold based instead of heat" "Light is energy blah blah blah"

It is shocking and amazing to me that someone could even go off on a tangent about Earth-based science when the simple rebuttal is "THIS ISN'T EARTH"

I mean seriously, you're cool with me flinging displacement energy at a troll's nose, making his head explode, and picking up some gems from his rapidly decaying corpse, but you'll be damned if you let starlight sphere rub against your physics knowledge.

If Arm wants the light to be cold, IT IS. Why is it? Because thats how it is in Elanthia, you can't disprove the circumstances in a fantasy world, no matter how hard you try.

Way back to the original topic, my two cents on SLS:

I personally love this spell, and it's allowed me to learn TM during times when I had difficulty otherwise (probably due to my lack of understand on how to utilize other spells) and as stated before, it oozes style. The suggestions that have been made are good ones about reducing pulse time, increasing speed, or making it work in conjunction with other spells...I would love to be able to cast it 24/7, even with severe penalties during the day.

I wouldn't care if it did 1/10th of it's damage during the day, I just like having it around. I understand, however, how that particular idea has already been squashed.

And I still had the fully targeted burn ready to fire hidden in the shadows. As you can see the sphere advances fast enough and pulses fast enough already to
be attacking within reasonable time with the right combat technique.

I should also note, you can be aiming a longbow from the shadows and have it at Best possible shot shortly after the burn spell is fully targeted. That totals, Spike, Sphere, Burn and a ranged weapon attack all hitting nearly within the same second with proper timing and your sphere cast on the proper constellation.

Or you could just cast three PDs? Snap a bunch of TKTs?

The argument that Sphere lets you cast other spells while hunting seems sort of moot to me, rebuffing is handled separately anyhow.

If damage from sphere was upped, or it had some more spell interactions (unleash on it for a pulse? dazzle or burn on it to charge up it's next few attacks? TKT with it in the room grabbed chunks of semi-explosive or cold starbits? what else?), I'd be more curious about it.
