All four of those sound like good places to start.

Personally, I would love to see more of the guild NPCs (Guild Leaders and Pit Masters as well as others scattered here and there) given more individual personalities and topics that they're willing to discuss. Currently only Rushleel and Yutwian have much to say about anything or anybody.

How about an upgrade to all the old style barbarian forges into crafting halls. The tools/facilities in these should be of a kind to help (bonus?) with weapon smithing. Adding some barbarian only patterns available in them would also be nice.

#1. Not too high level, younger barbarians need to know what its all about. and maybe even a barbarian library that gives a little background, more responses to various questions by the guildleaders, etc. I promise my tog won't try to eat the book. Unless it smells like turnips....

a little background on the current leaders would be nice as well. for example, we didn't even know Mo had a brother named Les until he showed up in the guild one day.

I like Magdar's idea of barbarian only weapon templates that were available at any forging hall. Maybe they could be obtainable once for every 100 work orders completed, in order to keep them a little more unique. It would be cool if they were even randomly drawn, with the possibility of extremely rare templates. I've always enjoyed the forging aspect of our guild.

One and three, always like to feel like we live in a world where countless repeating the same actions isn't the only thing that is happening.

Further, the Gerstein idea of a Barbarian library, but it would have to be a proper barbarian library. For me this means an elder barbarian, who sits by something like a firepit, and wields epic (and thus long stories) for different important background things.

So basically not sure if its feasable, but an NPC would be a living books, there would be no shelf or whatever to interact, just the NPC, so like ask NPC about the seige of Crossing 397, and a compelling and detailed barbarian centric story is told of the last Battle of the Lyras War from the point of view of Crossings. Probably things on Gorbesh battles would be big, and Sorrow War, battles and physical conflict seem important, but other meditation, berseks and what not could be presented as well.

Its important for the information to be just as useful for the incoming gamer, as the veteran gamer.

Barbarian library = win.

A quest to unlearn roars would be nice. Obviously, if this would not be compatible with 3.0, forget I asked.

What. No, Barbarians used to have the ability to thump familiars. It was removed due to WM QQ.

I was recently using Elanthipedia to look up barb lore and I really thought that a barbarian library would be a great idea. Anything to add to RP, maybe even some quests/events to help bring it to life. I for one love to pvp but I really like RP'd pvp so anytime some RPing is going on I'm a happy camper. Maybe find some new old lore...As a S'kra player who RPs of Sraan Indakar I would looooove to learn about unknown S'Kra barbarians. I have come up with some lore of my own so maybe we could even add some of our own lore to help!?

I'm just pointing out that Barbarians still seem to be the primary weapon forgers, that's all.

Barbarians are like brothers to me--I train like one, and I respect the guild deeply. Some of my closest friends are Barbarians. I'm sorry if I came across as trolling, but when I get all of my reports done here at work I have nothing better to do than read wikipedia, huffington post, smellycat and all of the different DR forums :P

That and brainstorm ideas for various things.

Tony Stark withstanding, race car drivers aren't always their own mechanics, nor do they necessarily develop their own cars.

Barbarians are still essentially the go-to people for weapon crafting, if you consider tech bonuses. They just don't have ultimate rule over it anymore.

Question on Barbarian Lore,

Has there ever been a case where a crazy Barbarian Master NPC decided to tread the dangerous line of magic-use, taking it to the extreme while still maintaining his/her Barbarian abilities? Sort of like how some of the magic guilds have the occasional crazy mage who decides to flirt with sorcery. Per one of Armifer's old posts,

While aberrations can exist, it's assumed that a bog standard example of the human race has the capacity to tap into any of the supernatural powers the guilds use, if they have the opportunity to learn. Magicians aren't rare and special people -- they simply invested their time and energy into learning something that the Thief hasn't, and visa versa with Khri. Someone can have an aberrant affinity or ineptitude for a supernatural act in the same way that some people have good heads for math, or can't carry a tune if their lives depended on it.
While some examples of "cross-class" development would not be wholly impossible ICly, they will not happen for game-play reasons and because the guilds like to keep their cards close to their chests. Just because a Trader has the physiological capacity to attune doesn't change the fact that that ship has already set sail in his life.

...Which leads me to believe that a Barbarian-Mage could theoretically exist, just that it would never be in the hands of a PC.

Or, has it already been extablished somewhere why a Barbarian could never learn magic abilities while still maintaining his/her Barbarian talents? Perhaps memory loss, or perhaps the Mana-Manipulation cognitive thought patterns short circuit the Inner-Fire thought patterns? I was reading the pedia and couldn't find anything.

The more a Barbarian becomes steeped in magical thought, the weaker the Inner Fire burns. In the obscenely rare (and unfortunate) case where a Barbarian spontaneously Attunes, it snuffs the fire out. The person in question is no longer a Barbarian.

The physics or biology behind this is not commonly understood, but the threat is well advertised.

Thoughts affect the brain. In real life we do not understand the mechanism of action for this, but we have endless reels of examples. Your choice in how to take up the world psychologically can have a drastic affect on how your body functions, up to and including psychogenic death (literally, thinking yourself to death with no external cause).

Mortal magic in DR is grounded in patterns of thought and brain adaptivity. At the crudest level, you do magic by thinking about it hard enough. It's... not the same as Barbarians not being able to believe in magic, but it is a murky realm where there are no sharp categorical differences between studying to understand magic and training to become a magician. You'll never get there for game play reasons, and spontaneous Attunements are very rare in the setting, but all the same it's a step down the road to using magic.

Fifthing request to roar away familiars. Shadowlings I am a little indifferent about, as they cannot be made to harangue me, but I'll always take the ability to smash them any day.

I would also love an Anti-Locate ability. I'm not sure if it makes sense lore-wise unless it forced Locate to be a spell vs. stamina check when active, or some such. I understand we are trying to move away from arms races between stun/anti-stun, web/anti-web and the like, but I think Barbarians should have ways to influence spell effects.

The new skills, the new magic system and the new combat system are all intertwined and must be released together. I'd love to get some of the new Barb stuff out there for everyone to play with, but it just isn't possible yet due to where other things are at. In the meantime I'm trying to find other ways to continue Guild development.
