No offense but no. Alot of those that go go to also gamble and do the Vegas experience. Move it outta Vegas and I doubt the people would go. Personally I know I would never pay to go to Seattle.. and especially Canada...eh.

I go to Vegascon every year to get away from it all. I live in Seattle, I can see it any ol' time. But we could plan some great get togethers up here.

I mean I just can't see it being held in one of the many tribal casinos. I never win there! But I win in Vegas!!!

I've never been to Vegas, but I've been told you have to be 21 to gamble there for some reason. sigh So, I won't be going next year, but maybe the year after, depending on the date (it's usually right around my birthday, and with my luck it'll be the weekend BEFORE I turn 21).

I'm with the majority voice here. Part of what makes the VegasCon such a special event, is the atmosphere of Vegas itself. Holding it somewhere other then Vegas would ruin it.

I agree with you, Dave. I have some odd reasoning for it, but it's kind of irrelevant to most people. Suffice it to say, if it wasn't in Vegas, it would be just like any other DR gathering and chances are I'd stay here on the east coast. Of course, I'd make an exception if it were hosted at Alyson Hannigan's house, but the odds of that are slim at best. Mmm. Alyson Hannigan....

One of these days I'm going to make it to VegasCon.

I've bought tickets and paid for hotels for the last two years but I start drinking the night before I'm supposed to leave and when I sober up, I find myself on my living room floor having missed the whole thing.

The scary part is, somehow I have packed several days of dirty clothes in my bags.

I think the original reason for why Vegascon is held at Vegas is because plane tickets and hotels are cheaper at Las Vegas. Discounted flight tickets and hotel rates can always be found in deals for Vegas while you can't say the same for a lot of other cities on the west coast.

As far as being under 21... a ton of people under 21 regularly go to Vegascon. I've gone twice as an under-21er. There's plenty of stuff to do besides gambling in Vegas (like the really cool arcades) and there's never been an age limit for hanging out and socializing at the penthouse suite.

SkyDive Las Vegas!!! 09/01/2003 07:50 PM CDT
Well, since there's official VegasCon dates set for Feb 26th - 29th I figured it's time to post.

I know it's 6 months away still but the biggest reason that a lot of people didn't go jump last year (besides being pussies <g>) was because they didn't have the extra money for it. So I figured i'd post now this far out so folks that want to do it can put back for it over the next half year.

The basics of it is that anyone who's not liscensed or currently part of a student freefall program somewhere would have to do a tandem. That's where they strap ya to a tandem master that has about 13,000 jumps under his belt and he jumps you. All you have to do is go through a short class and then take the ride. It's a good first experience for most people because it's very low risk and it still gives you the full experience of freefalling. One of my friends that went with us last year liked it so she went and took classes and already has her A liscense and is working towards a B.

I'll paste the link for the dropzone we're using there just south of Vegas for anyone that might be interested. Their website is pretty awesome, they have sample videos for you to watch, a huge Q&A section, and all of the available packages with prices and such. Pretty much all of the info you need is on the site, but if anyone has any specific questions that's not answered there you know how to get a hold of me.

Hope to see some of you in the air next year!

GM Involvement in VegasCon 09/23/2003 12:19 PM CDT
Hi Folks:

It's true that we're fiddling with logistics right now. Rather not get ANOTHER debate started here on which dates are better for who and all. Please respond to Ripsterr's poll, posted above, and head to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DR-VegasCon/ if you want to voice opinions. I know that's difficult for some folks, because of the added amount of posts, etc., but having to compile stats from two ongoing debates is really difficult for the Planning Committtee.

As to GM's at VegasCon, it should be noted that SIMU doesn't pay for GM's to go. I've talked to 5 GM's thus far, and 1 will be unable to go if we don't get the same dates as GSIII (earlier dates.) The rest say they'll make it on either set of dates.

Doc,

Ripsterr asked me to post here because of so many people who don't choose to be on the Yahoo list. (Which can be as bad as the boards with the mindless babble, or worse and fill up people's mailboxes)

We should not limit opinions to the Yahoo list only. To hear from as many people as possible can only be a good thing.

Thank you.

I agree completely with Soim.

The con should be held on the dates that glean the most GM involvement/attendance. Since that would be the first week of February, so be it.

It's a no-brainer to me.

Never mind sending your wishes to Ripsterr for the poll. The poll results
didn't matter in the decision.

Updates to my lists also don't matter to the decision as the decision
has been forced by your planning committee. Ripsterr and I wished to
take both of these bits of info into account and needed a couple more
days to allow sufficient input. But the decision's already been made,
so never mind.

Planning committee will hopefully let you know what's going on when
and if they get the Sahara contract that's been signed and the $600
deposit taken care of. Thanks to Jewellea for checking on making
sure it was refundable. I really DO care about the work you did.
Didn't spend all that time uploading your pics to the Planning Group
for nothing, ya know! Maybe they'll come in handy for you guys
planning for 2005.

Good luck in Vegas in 2004!

Oh, and Fen... Anji and Zendar were the ones that couldn't make it to
Vegas unless we got the two games together. Completely understandable from my point of view and GM Anji is a definite asset to our Con.

weekdays and $95 on weekends, or the spacious Atrium suites for $ $65 weekdays
/ $115 weekends.
* Bingo Fan? The New Frontier has the only Bingo lounge on the strip! Think
Bingo is only for little old ladies with blue hair and a troll doll
collection? (So did ChrisAnn until she won $1,000 on a $24 card! If you've never tried it, it might be worth your while!!!)

to get our really cool suites, we have to have 50 rooms booked. The deadline
for advance booking is January 8, 2004. After that, the prices are subject to
change and all rooms are subject to availability only - SO BOOK EARLY!

Simucon Website registration should be set up soon, we will post when it's all ready. This years prices remain the same as last year. Early registration, until December 8, 2003...$35.00. Vegascon Raffle 2004 10/03/2003 10:38 PM CDT
Vegascon 2004 Raffle

Please read this E-mail in its entirety. If you want to contribute, e-mail me at hegemonic@ev1.net to let me know of your contribution. If you just reply to this list with your contribution it may be missed and not counted, but I encourage everyone to put their submissions on the list as well to let folks know what to expect.

Announcing the 2004 Vegascon Raffle! There are three categories of prizes for this event.

IG Prizes ? Contributions of IG items that can be picked up IG after the convention.

RL Prizes ? Neat things that can be picked up at the convention, or mailed to the winners by those that contributed the items.

Spoof Prizes ? Crazy things people volunteer to do/offer.

For example, I will be contributing three different prizes to the Raffle.

IG ? I haven?t figured out what cool thing to give up yet, but I will!

RL ? A gift certificate for boot town, to buy a cowboy hat. If you don?t have a boot town near you, I?ll purchase the hat and ship it to you.

Spoof ? One lucky winner gets to choose which color my hair will be dyed. The dye-ing will be done in front of the convention goers, for everyone's amusement and very likely my personal ridicule. <g>

These are all examples, and I?m challenging everyone out there to come up with fun things to contribute to everyone?s fun.

There will be free tickets given as incentives! Details to come soon on that. But everyone have fun and think up some great things that will help out this and future cons by contributing!

Thanks to Solomon who has already put up a alteration and a snake charm, and I?m sure some suitably demented spoof idea when he comes up with it. <g>

I?m really really looking forward to people?s spoof contributions. (grins) Please send all contributions to me at Hegemonic@ev1.net and also let everyone on the list know! Just make sure you send it to me to. <g>.

Geof/Hegemonic

P.S. In other words everyone come up with ideas of things they going to contribute and send them to me!

P.P.S. Few questions I've had come my way. Anyone can contribute in the Raffle itself, hosts, planners, everyone who attends, can purchase tickets for the raffle. Details on that sooner then later.

Not entirely sure if I'll be in Vegas, but since I really hope to be (meaning I really hope my mom decides a plane ticket to Vegas would be a good early birthday present for her oldest daughter), I'll fill this out and cross my fingers.

Tell us.....

What's your favorite drink?
i'm poor, so that tends to limit my selection just a bit. mike's hard lemonade is the drink of choice this year, last year it was jack daniels. in downtown chicago i had some really good green drink called a crocodile, unfortunately i have no idea what was in it. it was $9 though, and worth every cent.

Profession you most love to be in DR:
Empath, lately Trader has been fun

Tell us your favorite genre of music:
powerpop/rock.. i tend to like the more alternative stuff on the radio, about 6-12 months before it's on the radio.

What's in your CD player right now?
it's all mp3s.. the last few were: the get up kids - high as the moon, nada surf - popular, the anniversary - peace pain and regret, the all-american rejects - too far gone

Cat person or dog person?
dog by default due to allergies (not mine)

Any hobbies?
marching band, hockey band, watching gopher football and hockey, analyzing big 10 football standings and figuring out some very interesting stuff regarding bowl games... i used to hate sports, i don't know what happened. i also try to read for fun, but there's that school stuff getting in my way.

Thing you most like to do while in Vegas (If you haven't been there, what would you LIKE to do before heading home):
never been, so i want to do everything i legally can do, and then some. 0:-)

Favorite GH or GM:
reexa, towint, sashera, solomon.. GMs are like potato chips, you can't pick just one!

Do you dance or watch?
that depends, how many drinks have i had?

Most loved book you've ever read:
ender's game, by orson scott card

First thing you do when you wake up:
jump out of bed and almost fall over (bunk bed, no ladder), then stumble the few steps to my computer chair

Does Jewellea's idea of Karaoke frighten you or excite you?
i don't know what her idea of karaoke is, but karaoke in general is pretty funny as long as i'm not singing

Favorite cartoon character:
i honestly don't remember the last time i cared about a cartoon show.. maybe rocky and bullwinkle

Bath person or Shower person?
shower, unless i'm going for the super-luxurious night at home

Beef or Chicken?
both
