Scripting fun. 10/21/2003 08:57 AM CDT
Thought I post this just for kicks. Made with the escape scripting thing. It's very limited but at least it'll divide. I have one that calculates the weight and volume made out with the wizard which was tough. I'll show the output from the wizard one when I get home. This one I just made:

input:
.mix dust dust dust dust dust mix zincb mix ironb ironb mix greathelm
output:
No Compression Calculated With Compression Calculated
Your mix Weight is: 160 160
Your mix Volume is: 40 40
Your mix Density is: 40 40
Your item's weight will be: 160 160

[script done]

input:
.mix dust dust dust dust dust mix zincb mix ironb ironb mix mailgloves
output:
No Compression Calculated With Compression Calculated
Your mix Weight is: 160 160
Your mix Volume is: 40 40
Your mix Density is: 40 40
Your item's weight will be: 36 36

[script done]

input:
.mix ironb ironb ironb ironb ironb mix zincb zincb zincb mix mix tins mix hauberk
output:
No Compression Calculated With Compression Calculated
Your mix Weight is: 399 399
Your mix Volume is: 80 80
Your mix Density is: 4 4
Your item's weight will be: 399 399

I know the density is off it's caused by the escape thing only working with integers. But I managed to make it get the right weight anyway.

Forging at it's finest, well maybe not. 12/05/2003 02:51 AM CST
Ohh yeah, look at this masterpiece......

You are certain that it could do:
poor puncture damage
moderate slice damage
low impact damage

You are certain that the scimitar is fairly balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the scimitar is of average strength, and is in pristine condition.

Maybe I should try armor sometime.

Hinderance fitting.. 12/21/2003 12:18 PM CST
I noticed something odd today when i fitted a chain shirt for hinderance. I mixed up two wires for a 400 stone HC shirt. The first one I finished, I fitted for hinderance once and it turned out to be a 398 stone LC shirt. The second one I finished, I did not fit for anything other than completion and it turned out to be the 400 stone HC shirt that I was shooting for.

My question is this, is that normal for fit hinderance to drop weight as well? If so, then why do we have a fit weight option?

For those that are curious, i'm a barbarian. 530 overall chain ranks and 220 mech.

fitting is for ninnies, fitting is dumb. just fit final.

What they mean is that armorsmithing was an afterthought of the entire forging system. We get a completely useless option to fit armor while you all can grind to improve stats.

I believe in addition to fit final you can also fit for a reduction in durability and/or fit for a reduction in impact protection and absorption.

As a practical matter you may want to avoid typing anything other than "fit my plates/chain final" upon the completion of your work. Unless you crave second rate goods that is.

My constructive solution to this problem would be to fix this glaring problem in the system by basing the fitting attempts on skill. Perhaps a successful fitting for weight would reduce the weight with no penalty. An unsuccessful attempt would cause a small hit to durability. Please consider it.

Oh, I definitely agree Michael. The only reason I ever do it is to see if I actually can. The outcome of doing so just surprised me, I knew that it dropped protection. The weight of the piece dropping as well was something I had never heard of. So I came to the experts. :)

400 stone field plate. 01/25/2004 03:59 PM CST
ok cranked this out at 400 stones, still tweaking with the mix so dont ask to buy any until i can get a little better construction, i thinking it can be done.

The field plate armor is heavy plate.

The armor looks like it offers protection for the following areas:

right arm
left arm
right leg
left leg
chest
abdomen
back

You feel certain that some field plate armor appears to impose great maneuvering hindrance and offers:
high protection and great damage absorption for puncture attacks.
high protection and great damage absorption for slice attacks.
moderate protection and great damage absorption for impact attacks.
good protection and high damage absorption for fire attacks.
moderate protection and high damage absorption for cold attacks.
poor protection and high damage absorption for electrical attacks.

If you were only maneuvering in some field plate armor you could expect to be unhindered.

You are certain that the field plate armor is fairly sturdy, and is in pristine condition.

The field plate armor is made with metal.
You wonder if the field plate armor might weigh a few hundred stones.
You are certain that the field plate armor is worth exactly 3800 lirums.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is pretty decent...

The plate greaves are light plate.
The greaves look like they offer protection for the following areas:
right leg
left leg
You feel certain that some plate greaves appear to impose insignificant maneuvering hindrance and offers:
high protection and high damage absorption for puncture attacks.
high protection and high damage absorption for slice attacks.
moderate protection and high damage absorption for impact attacks.
good protection and good damage absorption for fire attacks.
moderate protection and good damage absorption for cold attacks.
poor protection and good damage absorption for electrical attacks.
If you were only maneuvering in some plate greaves you could expect to be unhindered.
You are certain that the plate greaves are very strong, and are in pristine condition.

Thanks again for the mix, Clynlyn!

A nigh-mythical blade. 04/13/2004 02:07 PM CDT
Been thinking a lot about something I've been wanting to do the last few days, but as my knowledge of forging is extremely limited I've decided to see what you lot think.

The current appraisal for a Robe Sword is thus: Poor/Heavy/Moderate Fairly/Fairly, weighing in at 56 stones. According to what I've read, the weapon is great but requires massive strength/agility to minimize the roundtimes the bloody thing gives. So I've been curious...have we been able to forge anything like this with regular old steel? How about with the rare metals? How much weight can we lose to keep roughly the same appraisal?

First, let's assume it's possible with standard steel. How much would rare metal help (of what kind, and how much)?

Sorry for the ignorance, I've never come even close to having the sort of skill necessary to forge and haven't done any research about what can and cannot be done with the system. Thanks for your time, folks!

Word has it that Relayer makes the best and he sell it for 50 plats. However, Ill make ya about the same stuff for considerable less. It will appraise the same, though folks tell me it wont compare the same.

Hey Sal. I have a set of capped 510 stone field plate on my person if you want it for 10 plat. Just made it last night, but also found I could make the 500 (which I sell for 15). I'm in the Crossing, so let me know.

Whats a good skill setup to be able to start making good forged heavy plate as far as heavy plate and mechanical lore skill goes?

What other skills are good to have?(besides general armor ranks)

>Whats a good skill setup to be able to start making good forged heavy plate

You can make very decent HP and LP accessories with ~200 Forge Factor as a Paladin. (http://dr.six-something.org/ff.php) and a good mix. Obviously, more skill is better. You will need LP ranks to get a +200 FF unless you're over 300 HP.

>What other skills are good to have?(besides general armor ranks)

Stats. Strength and Stamina. Harder and denser mixes are harder to pound; str/stam/disc go a long way, not only for RT, but for fatigue as well. I haven't noticed any appreciable results from more reflex or agility. YMMV.

HC and LC questions. 01/11/2006 11:47 AM CST
Is it possible to make chain greaves and vambraces to be specifically LC or HC? Unlike store bought were it's LC or HC depending on your highest ranking.

Also, what's a full suit of capped HC selling for and it's appraisal?

I'll look at previous posts for an appraisal, but if you have it handy...

Yes, and it depends on the weight of the items.

In addition, some stores sell specific LC and HC items instead of general chain items (Haven for one)
