Heh, '97 simuconII there were like 30 DR folks there and 5 clerics i think: Kharsih, Basthet, Lilliana, Cyanosis, and myself! Unless you want to count Seasaelm, but she was a new GM at the time. Simucon '98 had an explosion of DR folks.

Trust me sis, I will drink enough for the whole family, by Glythtide! Im not a big gambler, so I may pass on that.

Sorry I missed it... my first was in '99, at the St. George. I miss that hotel.
And which GM did Seasaelm become? Now I'm curious...

I would be going if it wasn't so expensive then again if it was we would all go and they would run for the hills...

Anyway the last convention I went to was like 40 dollars not 250 or whatever. Even thinking about having that much just makes me dream about all the lovely things I could do with it which would last so much longer than simucon.

Silver, you might be surprised at how long the mems last from a simucon. I think simucon mems brought me back as much as anything. But I can understand the money aspect of it though.

Think out of state University and you might get the picture. I want to go to Simucon, I would go if it was like 40 or 50 bucks to get in but its just too much. I would have to save up for like 2 years to go.

A lot of people go and just hang out with everyone but don't pay for the convention itself. That means you can't get into any of the seminars and the big dinners but there's always so much going on there's more than enough fun to be had.

Heyo everyone,

I haven't been on the boards since early last week .... and I'm sure you've noticed. This will likely continue to be the case for a while. The really bad news is that I will also not be attending the con this year as much as I was greatly anticipating it. My wife is pregnant and due in mid July. Early last week we started having complications with the pregancy that will put us in a high-risk pregnancy for the forseeable future if not for the rest of the time. My attendance to the con always hinged on the pregnancy going well. I will SORELY miss you guys at the con and am woefully making the right decision not to attend. I am terribly sorry I won't get the chance to meet, re-meet, and say hello to everyone.... won't get to watch the costume ball... and won't get to run the AD&D game again this year. Please be sure to have fun for me! And brutalize Zabs.

That said, I am still here... and still working. I am just dedicating the time I have to coding and development which is why I will not be around the boards much till things settle a bit. When Raise is released I will be available every waking second I can be to make sure things run smoothly so no worries there... both on the boards and in game. Until then, please either hold of on direct questions to me on the boards or use another channel.

How 'bout Zabari? Are you going to roll her up as a Cleric, Heiu? Start training her shield skill as early as possible if so.

Heiu-

first of all congradulations! And my best wishes for both you and your wife making it through a tough pregnancy. My current favorite girls name(other than my daughters) is Isabelle, but thats me.

Second- is this your first child? If it is, I suspect you don't realize how much this event is likely to disrupt your life for at least a year. When my daughter was born, I only had time to play DR on those nights when my daughter was waking up so often, or just wouldn't go back to sleep, so I would have her sitting on my lap at 4 a.m. while I played. I don't have any regrets, because even though I was tired, my time with my daughter and wife were far more important than my time in DR. Oh and there was that job thing. I don't know your job situation, nor your real life situation, but very selfishly, I am concerned whether you will really have any energy left to devote to DR, and wonder whether your attention might well be very legitimately diverted to your new family.

As a father, I would applaud any decision you make as far as allocating your time and energy. As a cleric player, I frankly am concerned that this means very little time availible for cleric developement.

We are half way through May. Resurrection is still hanging over us. I think you have great ideas and like your attitude on the boards. But in two months I fear that you will be largely lost to us, and that anything that has not been completed and released by that time will linger on for a great deal of time.

Zelda isn't bad. Although when I think of babies, I try to stay away from names that make me think of old people. Like Agnes. Or Ester. I envision older women when I see these names. I would hate to have a little four year old girl who was Agnes and everytime I said her name I expected to see someone who was 80 walk in.

But I guess that's just me.

Often I tend not to reply if all I want to say is already posted by another player - in this case Flavius, and far more eloquently than I could manage. However I, too, want to add both my congratulations and my best wishes for the pregnancy and child.

As a person, I agree that your wife and child must come first. As a player, I'm hoping there's a dev agm in training for the cleric guild ready to support you, and continue development.

All the best for the coming months (and years!) Heiu.

As for names, if you're looking for something different, I've found quite a few Maori names to be nice, for example "Aroha" which translates as love.

Good girl names...

Ahem, you should name her Su Ling. Yes, that's it. cough

Anyway, I'm fond of half the names I found in my book of baby names. Like Crory, I'm fond of classical names or names from famous books...or names that are at least 3 syllables and often shortened for nicknames. :)

Try choosing a name that's not so usual. All children will get picked on regardless of their name, but try not to get one that's too weird. PLEASE don't choose a freaky name. :) :)

I didn't get picked on. Then again, I had one of those 3 syllable names that wasn't shortened (until I was in highschool... in public anyway, we'll not go into nicknames). Oh, that's it... you should name her Patricia. ::ducks::

Congrats on the baby Heiu. As for a name, do you want a traditional name, a popular name? Make sure the first name with the last name. Don't give her a really long first name if you're last name is very long or very short. Or a very short first name with a very short last name. My parents did that to me. Also do you want her name to reflect her heritage or just be a pretty name. My middle name is the name of my dad's favorite sister. Also make sure you try out the name out loud a few times to make sure it flows and doesn't sound like something it shouldn't.
