A note from the desk of Talliver Dabbings, Mayor of Icemule Trace. It bears a broken seal of sky blue wax stamped with a charging mule. The letter is slightly damp, as if it could not entirely be protected from snow and sleet:
To Whom It May Concern,
Icemule Trace came under unexpected attack this evening from a creature or construct of unknown origin. The creature is immense, roughly forty feet from tip to tail. It appears to have been made, in whole or part, from metal, but reacted as does a wild animal when confronted. Whichever it is, construct or creature, the manticore is exceptionally dangerous. Its ability to fly at incredible speeds--one of my town's keenest scouts said it flew faster than anything she had ever seen--means that this mysterious threat is not Icemule Trace's alone to bear. I am organizing an expedition up through Olbin Pass, to the east of Icemule Trace, this Restday, the 7th of Ivastaen, at nine hours past noon as the elves reckon time.
In the meantime, I make this plea: safeguard yourselves, for this monster could strike anywhere and at any time.

Tonight, a mysterious manticore made from metal menaced the town of Icemule Trace. Brave adventurers converged on the beast, attacking it with enough firepower to obliterate almost anything... but the manticore survived and fled east toward the Western Dragonspine mountains.
The World Team is pleased to present this month's ongoing storyline, Flight of the Manticore. Although things have kicked off in Icemule Trace, Talliver's words are true: the tale of this mysterious creature could lead anywhere, from the shaded closes of River's Rest to the rough-and-tumble streets of Wehnimer's Landing. The World Team is trying something new in that this story will be built around scheduled events. Manticore-related affairs may occur at any time, but there are a few guaranteed dates where you can get involved in the main events. We'll announce the location for these happenings as the quest continues.
