ESN: Solace (1140)! 11/28/2017 12:49 PM CST
On the ninth day of ESN, empaths gained access to a new spell... Solace (1140)!

Solace can be used to IMPRINT a player in the same realm as an auto-success and no spirit cost. It grants 3 + (Mental Lore, Trensference Bonus / 50) charges and lasts the standard imprint duration. Mental Lore, Transference also increases the range of Solace to adjacent realm at 35 ranks, near-adjacent at 70 ranks, and far at 105 ranks. Finally, for 30 seconds after the casting of Solace, the empath can transfer from that player regardless of whether they are "in combat" or not.

Solace has a 60 minute cooldown which can be reduced by 12 seconds for every rank of Spiritual Lore, Blessings.

Let me know what you think!

YAY

> (solace) It grants 3 + (Mental Lore, Trensference Bonus / 50) charges and lasts the standard imprint duration.

> (imprint) A successful imprint lasts for 30 minutes + (3 seconds per skill bonus in Spiritual Lore, Blessings) and has 3 charges plus extra depending on the success of a healing skill check roll.

Questions:
1) In this context, does the word "charge" mean how many individual wounds may be transferred before the imprint is broken?
2) When I cast solace, do I cast it AT a person or do I cast it on myself and then IMPRINT while its up?
3) Why does normal IMPRINT rely on healing skill check roll for charges (can you give us an idea of how many extra charges you get based on success?) instead of also using Transference bonus like the Solace spell does? (yes I know the success includes that lore but I'm curious why Solace uses Blessings specifically to provide additional charges)

> Finally, for 30 seconds after the casting of Solace, the empath can transfer from that player regardless of whether they are "in combat" or not.
SWEET. Now how do I train my friends to get my attention?

> Solace has a 60 minute cooldown which can be reduced by 12 seconds for every rank of Spiritual Lore, Blessings.
4) Is there any easy way in-game to know how much time is remaining on this cooldown? I haven't used it yet but I'm assuming there might be a spell effect on you when you're in cooldown?

Yes.

Cast it AT the person, like you would use 116 or 225.

> 3) Why does normal IMPRINT rely on healing skill check roll for charges (can you give us an idea of how many extra charges you get based on success?) instead of also using Transference bonus like the Solace spell does? IMPRINT uses the roll for additional charges to help encourage and differentiate between each empath's focus on training in healing-specific skills/spell research. Solace doesn't have a roll, so I picked Transference to provide additional charges to add more benefits for this new lore.

> SWEET. Now how do I train my friends to get my attention?
IMPRINT CALL is a good way as long as your on their imprinted list...

> 4) Is there any easy way in-game to know how much time is remaining on this cooldown? I haven't used it yet but I'm assuming there might be a spell effect on you when you're in cooldown?
There should be a spell effect for the cooldown that is easy to see in SPELL ACTIVE, yes.

I'd like to start by saying that I really appreciate the work put forth during ESN and it's had some seriously cool stuff (I love the messaging updates and hope to some day win the blood mist one myself!) That being said: would it have been more accurate to call this a Healing System Review than an Empath Review? Is there anything for the non-healing focused among us to look forward to during ESN?

You are correct. In hindsight I should have gone for a less catchy name, or maybe just chosen HSN... My apologies for that. I have one thing for you tomorrow (Technically for ALL empaths), and I can also give you the comfort of telling you that no nerfs to empath hunting are a part of this review.

I'm down with the no nerfs part :) Thanks again for all of your hard work, Konacon!

So call it "Healing Spectacular November" and move on. What's a new acronym here or there? :)

ADVERBIOUS

It's significantly better than what was in that spell slot for the last 9 years, which was nothing. And if we have a good idea for a profession, we are almost never limited by having/not having a spell slot. The constraint is lack of good and balanced ideas, not empty spell slots.

Those who question the spell are probably not understanding the full implication of it. Empaths may have the ability to IMPRINT, but it's a skill check (which most empaths will probably only have a 35-50% chance to succeed at) and the target must be in the same room as the empath. Solace (1140) changes that dynamic. With enough lore, you can instantly imprint with guaranteed success and heal any one player in the game every hour. And even with no lore, anyone in the same realm. Now when little Timmy falls down the well in Wehnimer's Landing and calls out for help on the amulet, you can cast 1140 while resting in Ta'Illistim to imprint and heal him.

Thanks Konacon and Estild! I kind of like it. Tried it out. I definitely see the benefit, especially when someone is looking for a healer in Rivers Rest, for example. Heh.

That being said, would you all consider allowing us to imprint with 1140 with someone in the room? Currently it says they're in the room so no need for Solace. It seems silly to have to walk to the next room, cast solace, and then come back to have the 100% success rate.

You're right, I don't think I understood the full implication of the spell. I take it all back, it's actually pretty cool.

Great, now how are we going to kill off important NPCs when they could reasonably be expected to have an imprinted empath monitoring their vitals! Back to the drawing board and/or Luukosian deathwort farm :(

This. Is. Cool.

Also there is a typo and I giggled. I've already BUG'd it but see if you can find it:

Viewpoint of the imprinted:

>A nebulous wisp darts into view, heading for you! It dives into you, and you suddenly feel the resonance of a connection with Cerridween.
>
>Your body thrums with the resonance of Cerridween's spirit surging within you.
>The severe wound afflicting your neck fades away, leaving you healed.
>
>Your body thrums with the resonance of Cerridween's spirit surging within you.
>The minor wound afflicting your right leg fades away, leaving you healed.
>
>Your body thrums with the resonance of Cerridween's spirit surging within you.
>The minor wound afflicting your right eye fades away, leaving you healed.
>

Viewpoint of Cerridween (healer):

>cast IMPRINTED
>You gesture into the air.
>A nebulous wisp of your own spirit separates from your body and darts away, seeking IMPRINTED. Almost immediately, you can feel a connection with her.
>Through your spirit you feel IMPRINTED... He has a bleeding severe neck injury, a minor right leg injury, and a minor right eye injury.
>Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>tran IMPRINTED neck
>You close your eyes and reach out along your spiritual connection to IMPRINTED.
>You draw the severe wound afflicting IMPRINTED's neck to yourself along your spiritual connection to him.
!>tran IMPRINTED right leg
>You close your eyes and reach out along your spiritual connection to IMPRINTED.
>You draw the minor wound afflicting IMPRINTED's right leg to yourself along your spiritual connection to him.
!>tran IMPRINTED right eye
>You close your eyes and reach out along your spiritual connection to IMPRINTED.
>You draw the minor wound afflicting IMPRINTED's right eye to yourself along your spiritual connection to him.
!>
>The bruises around your right eye fade.
!>imprint check
>You close your eyes and reach out with your mind, searching for your spiritual presence throughout the land...
>Through your spiritual connection you sense IMPRINTED... He is in perfect health.

THANK YOU!! <3 <3

P.S. Cerridween's spirit is gunna get all up in ya'll and heal all your wounds. Because... that isn't creepy at all. Yay magic? :)

Thanks for the new spells to play with. I noticed the pronoun typo as well and bugged it in game. I wish I'd thought of doing it here first. It would have been so much easier!

Yes please. It also wastes 40 mana.

Using this spell since I recently got it...I have to say its a bit disappointing. There's a very cool idea and implementation here but there's just one or two TOO many limitations on it.

One - an hour cooldown with a reduction to 40mins at 100 ranks of blessing.... For a level 40 spell, this cooldown and use seems a bit too much.
Two - realm adjacent lore requirement - I'm ok with this one tho 105 ranks seems a bit high and its not quite clear what's adjacent/far/etc
Three - charges, for an hour long cooldown, putting a limit of only 3 healing locations without again, a heck of a lot of lore. There's what? 13 different locations to be healed?
Four - no blood healing - its not really healing if you can't take blood right?

For a level 40 spell, this number of restrictions is just too much.

My suggestion is to remove one and lighten the limits on another.

i.e. No blood restrictions, change the charges to 3 + 2x as much charges per lore as now, and cooldown to 1 hr + 2x as much time reduction as now

Please look into this as really from what I've seen, this spell has really not been seeing much use.
