Loresong Minimum Verses Update 10/12/2021 08:45 PM CDT
Hello Bards!

We've decided to raise the minimum loresong verses to 4 for all items. Prior to this change, some items would finish after the 2nd verse was sung. This will no longer be the case.

As the game has evolved over the years, the ability to add new properties to existing items has expanded. The loresong system is then updated to reveal these properties. As most of these newer properties reveal themselves in the 3rd and 4th verses, it has created an issue for items that would have otherwise only had a 2 verse loresong and fail to reach the later verses.

Initially we were addressing a bug that prevented loresongs from being marked 'complete' properly when an item has had properties added to it. As an example, simply singing to an item and unlocking its loresong (temporarily or permanently) would add a property to the item that wasn't being reflected upon future loresongs.

By standardizing all loresongs to a minimum of four verses, we'll be able to address some of the existing issues and help prevent future issues as well.

For items that have no new information to disclose, verse 3 will return the message "You sense nothing unusual about the (item)." and verse 4 will return the message "You feel that you have reached the end of the (item)'s song."

No changes have been made to items with custom loresongs, including those that go beyond 4 verses.

Thanks Meraki for the change to help fix this! I know this may not be fully relevant to this change but just want to repost this request to fix some formatting issues with bard loresong recall that I haven't seen got much attention if you're looking for some new QoL things to work on:

The recall loresong short format is incredibly nice and making the item drops easier to parse. Thanks for the great change! However, there's a number of ways where the format today is still extremely confusing and here's some suggestions to fix.

Example 1:

It imparts a bonus of +20 more than usual.
It has been temporarily enhanced.
Its enhancement will degrade when it scores a successful strike.
It should have quite a few uses left before the enhancement degrades away completely.
When its enhancement has degraded away, the item will lose its ability to inflict greater damage.
It is a small item, under a pound.
It is weighted to inflict more damage.
It is an involved project (250 difficulty) for an adventurer to modify.

See this example, the "temporarily enhanced" message is indented in the wrong place. Instead of putting it under the dmg weighing line, its put under the bonus line. So some people could interpret it to be the bonus is temporary. This is unnecessarily confusing. In this case, the "greater damage" messaging can still be used to figure out but that's not always the case.

Example 2:

It imparts a bonus of +20 more than usual.
It protects against magical attacks with a bonus of 8.
It has been temporarily enhanced.
Its enhancement will degrade when the wearer is struck in combat.
It should have an incredible amount of uses left before the enhancement degrades away completely.
When its enhancement has degraded away, the item will simply return to normal.
It is temporarily and moderately resistant (12%) to frigid attacks and moderately resistant (15%) to shocking attacks.
It appears to weigh about 20 pounds.
It is padded against critical blows.
It is a basic project (142 difficulty) for an adventurer to modify.

This is a case where gets very awkward. We have permanent shock resist, temporary cold resist, TD bonus, and crit padding. One (or more?) of these is temporary....but which one? It could be the cold resist but it can also be the TD because. There's still ways to figure out but again, this is unnecessary and complicated. My suggestion is to reformat, removing the "temporary enhanced, struck in combat, degrade messaging" and just put temporary/permanent attached to each appropriate line.

So it can rearrange to this as an example:

It imparts a bonus of +20 more than usual.
It (temporarily or permanently) protects against magical attacks with a bonus of 8.
It is temporarily and moderately resistant (12%) to frigid attacks
It is moderately resistant (15%) to shocking attacks.
It is (temporarily or permanently)padded against critical blows. It can withstand an incredible amount of uses.
It appears to weigh about 20 pounds. (move this to the end after the other effects?)
It is a basic project (142 difficulty) for an adventurer to modify.

Totally agree: everything for each single property should be encapsulated on the SAME line for full details OF that property.

NENMOONIA, Thank you for your detailed request post outlining the current recall format and your suggested recall format. I have some updates in the works for my recall review and the information you shared was helpful.
