Droughtman's Maze Challenge - Holiday Run: Prize List Update 12/06/2013 10:28 PM CST
Hey guys. I updated the prize list and the front page news item. The prize pool is now numbered, so you can see there are 110 items with ease. While we were going to offer some buffer items, it seems the concept isn't taking hold like we hoped. So the prize pool will stay "as is." There will be no updates or additions to it going forward. We removed the golvern slab and shade-lizard as prizes, and replaced them with two mana-flaring runestaves.

Here are some sneak peeks to some of the items:
• The bracelets are all pocketed and enhancive, with the "Steampunk" script on them (they have silvery gears).
• The belts with the rare metal buckles are all pocketed enhancives with a belt script on them.
• The boots with rare wood heels are pocketed and enhancive with a neat tie/untie script on them, complete with scarab shells inside them (Heh, you'll see if you win a pair).
• The grey moonstone cube casts Spirit Guide (130) 5x a day, but takes a whole day to regain a single charge.
• The armillary sphere casts Warding Sphere (310) 3x a day, recharges a single charge in 8 hours.
• The white opal torus cats Spell Shield (219) 2x a day, recharges a single charge in 12 hours.
• The shredded dresses are funny, see Tamuz's teaser post to understand what they can be.
• The witchwood box has a greater black ora jewelry piece inside. It's a mask.

Really did people complain about buffer items? I thought it was a great idea for those on the later runs I just did not post it. I think people were confused about why more items than people but once you explained I thought it was very thoughtful.

I might be in the minority but I wouldn't have minded a certificate for a custom post name title or log on/off. Not an uber weapon but I'd have been happy to have walked away with either of those.

Awesome!

I'm not sure I understand the torn dresses still. But I don't really understand dresses that aren't torn, so I suppose that's par for the course.
And that black ora mask is awesome. Not for any of my current characters, but you can REALLY build a character or a story out of such a unique piece.

>> • The shredded dresses are funny, see Tamuz's teaser post to understand what they can be.

Maybe I'm not getting it. but I either see a really cheap alternative to a sheath or if I reach a bit on it I can kind of see this as a way to blunt the weapon for "play" or practice fighting.

Heh now that's funny Wyrom. I can see a lot of thought and feedback was put into this item list. We should feel bad for complaining and ruining the surprise on some of these. :)

@greater black ora mask.

Neat... faceworn or headworn?

I'd change a couple of them bracelets to anklets :)

It'd have to be a scripted wearing, like how a fake beard, and some other masks, go on.

<The Man in the Black Ora Mask!>

I believe you meant dwarf. The Dwarf in the Black Ora Mask!

You see High Lord Malgaftan the Earthen Scourge.
He appears to be a Dwarf of the Khanshael.
He is taller than average and appears to be very young. He has half-closed bloodshot smokey white eyes and cracked and dried ebon skin. He has long, glossy steel grey hair tied into a multitude of long braided locks singed at the ends. He has a wide, flaring, and slightly flat nose and broad muscular shoulders. He has a long steel grey beard braided and bound with several tiny ale-stained leather bands.
He has an engraved mahogany pipe clenched between his teeth, a dark black barbed dagger tattoo on his neck, some white inked Khanshael runes on his neck, and a white-inked Obsidian Tower tattoo on his arm.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a gnome skin bag, a thick carved ruic wristlet set with a blue crystal, some dark rotting robes, a faceless black ora mask draped with a thin hood, some halfling skin boots, a black iron manacle, some veniom-insigiled ebon silk casting gloves, a shrunken gremlin head, a flowing veniom mesh cloak, a tiny arcane flask, some blackened veniom cufflinks, some scorched bone beard clips, and some heavy-duty black leather pants.

It'd be cool if a black ora mask became enveloped into your skin like the mask from the titular Jim Carrey movie, changing your description, and most importantly, not taking up a functional slot, especially your solitary head one. Heck, make all black ora like that, its attuned and permanent, why not let it bond with your skin. Wear a greater black ora bracer and your end up with a scaly hardened forearm striated with veins of black ora.

Ive noticed a lot of the GMs putting on festivals of their own in the last year or so. Reidyn with the solhaven one, Valyrka with the illistim one, Galene with the cysaegir one etc. Tamuz should do the Gownsmiths of elanthia tour! Imagine spending hours upon hours on nothing but gowns! Everyone would be so impressed. The praise alone, what phenomenal range that Tamuz guy has! I cant even begin to daydream about Tamuz unique gown zests.

I can't say I'm surprised, but I am seriously disappointed with the lack of response to what is evidently a known bug that affected multiple players. Hey, Simu, want to know why people say you have terrible customer service and quit the game as a result? Here's an example.

The issue is being looked into to see if there is anything we can do about getting the one link to open up on time with the other two links.

I'm not sure why you're railing the issue given all the facts, or claiming poor customer service, when I've been responding as best as I can.

Wyrom, I try to be fair, but the fact that you've known about the issue for so long and no one has tried to fix it at anytime in the past 7 or 8 years is insanely ridiculous. I think people are a lot more upset than you're recognizing and it stinks that it falls to you to be on the front line, but this is more typical Simu stuff that people are quitting over.

A simple announcement before a big ticket item, about the bug, and what we could do to get around it, would solve 99% of the rage, but that was not done. Pointing it out AFTER the fact, is not acceptable.

To be fair, isn't a bug that's existed for 7-8 year technically grandfathered in as a feature?

And this isn't directed at you VANKRASN39...

Considering most of us who weren't aware of the bug figured it out when we couldn't get to the sign up page during round 1 of RTCF, I'm amazed that people who attended all three AND EG are complaining about something they -HAD- to deal with prior. If you want to be angry about the broken link that's one thing, but if you're angry that Simu isn't willing to give you a special ticket or take back all the tickets and have a "do-over" well I'm sorry that's just plain silly. If you want to quit because Simu's inability to fix issues within its own system, go ahead. But remember we complained pretty heavily when RTCF happened about how we hated the "batches of tickets" and the "lack of a captcha" and they were pretty accommodating there. I have not seen a formal complaint about the website issue, the one that's been around for 8 years, at all until now. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets fixed before the next event.

Yes, they should fix the website. No, its not appropriate for them to compensate anyone for this. And as far as bad customer service goes, Wyrom has been in here placating people as best he can for an issue he did not cause. He has been patient, explained his position and what steps he's taken to fix the issue as best he can because it exists outside his department. That's fairly standard customer service, people simply tend to believe that good customer service = getting what they want.

>To be fair, isn't a bug that's existed for 7-8 year technically grandfathered in as a feature?

no, if it were a "feature" there should have been a notice at the top of the page. not everyone attempted to sign up for RtCF round one. I didn't, obviously others didn't either. I've been signing up for events since 2007 and in the five pay events I've signed up for on this account (and more on the other) I've never seen that before. To be fair, isn't it reasonable to think people will believe that tickets aren't yet for sale when the website says "tickets for this event are not yet for sale?"

While I don't know what can be done to placate the people who rearranged their lives to get a ticket and thought tickets were not on sale when scheduled, only for the tickets to be sold out, their concerns have not exactly been met with empathy from the senior GM in charge of events or a response from corporate.

I personally didn't know about the game feature where sometimes "tickets for sale" link didn't appear. Well, that's not true, I knew it showed up a few seconds AFTER tickets went on sale, but I had always used the "sign up now" icon in the information page. There is none for the DM this time.

What was my solution? (yes I got a ticket) I told a friend in AIM that they weren't for sale yet, and said odd.

They responded with.. Click the D icon on the page. Even that took me like 30 seconds to figure out. They didn't say big D, they said droughtman graphics. I thought they meant from the home page, and use sign up, and I went back, and said it still isn't there. THEN I got what they meant and hit the D, and got in, half the tickets gone. Got a ticket.

If I hadn't gotten a ticket, I probably would have been more irked at myself for no figuring it out then at SIMU for broken/missing links. Sure, I would have been upset, not ragequit upset, but upset.

As for Vel's comment.. yeah. Nowadays people only think good customer service is when the company does whatever they want. In this case, good customer service would be to make sure it never happens again. I am sure Wyrom is working on that.

The main box office page has never been the page you refresh to get hotly anticipated tickets. Other players even posted step by step guides for RTCF and I believe past tickets explaining exactly how to use SImu's box office system and on which page you need to be to buy a ticket.

Here is a solution for Wyrom to pass along: get rid of both messages. Get rid of the "Tickets are not available" message, get rid of the "Get your tickets" message. Get rid of both. That way you don't have to worry about coordinating two changes with the website concurrently.

Then, people will merely need to figure out that you need to click on the TITLE of the event to get to the ticket buying page. If they don't do that... well... darwin is working. Apparently those superfluous links are distracting people from the title link, so get rid of them.

Re: Droughtman's Maze Challenge - Holiday Run: Prize List Update 12/08/2013 09:36 AM CST
Clicking on the title link only isn't the best idea as it is not as user-friendly as a "Get your tickets" link. What would work better is a bit more communication on the page. My suggestion is to remove the "Tickets are not available message" and just use the "Get your tickets" link followed by the date and time tickets are to go on sale, like this - "Get your tickets - Available 12/19/13 9PM EST". The would make the link available regardless of the time, allow people to know where to click in a very user-friendly manner, and relay the information about when the tickets are to go on sale. From that point the date and time information could be stripped off after tickets went started to be on sale using the same method that is currently in place for updating the "Tickets are not available" message since it won't matter if those get removed 5-30 minutes late.

I brought it up because I didn't see a post from you or any other GM saying that you're looking into it. Maybe I missed it, but all I recall seeing is people complaining and no official commentary of any kind. And I'm not blaming you for a bug that exists, by the way; I was commenting on the perception that Simu doesn't care about things that affect its longtime players, which sometimes seems to be the case.

<<Considering most of us who weren't aware of the bug figured it out when we couldn't get to the sign up page during round 1 of RTCF, I'm amazed that people who attended all three AND EG are complaining about something they -HAD- to deal with prior. - Jhynnifer>>

I'm so pleased to amaze you!

In fact, I was one of the people who had NO problems buying a ticket for Round 1 of RTCF. Here is the difference. On Round 1 of RTCF, I could get to the quest page (which is different from the box office) in a fairly obvious-to-me manner. I knew where I needed to be, waited until the appropriate time, clicked the link, and got a ticket. Easy peasy. Here, by contrast, I did not know how to get to the quest page for this particular DM because I was unaware you needed to click the "D" in Droughtman's. Does that not seem like information that would have been useful to the general player base? Consequently, I was left looking at the box office and wondering why I could not purchase (or attempt to purchase) a ticket.

<<If you want to be angry about the broken link that's one thing, but if you're angry that Simu isn't willing to give you a special ticket or take back all the tickets and have a "do-over" well I'm sorry that's just plain silly. To whom is this directed? Me? Because I have not asked for a do-over and I have not asked for a special ticket and I certainly have not threatened to quit the game over this issue. So I am not sure where you're getting that.

I did and do believe an official response is both necessary and appropriate. There's no need for you to WK for Simu. You're right that I didn't get what I wanted, which was a fair opportunity to attempt to get a ticket to this event. But I'm not demanding special treatment or making threats or even being particularly unreasonable, unless you happen to think that expecting a company to address something that affected its customers in a timely manner is unreasonable.

<<Yes, they should fix the website.>>

Yes, they should.

<<No, its not appropriate for them to compensate anyone for this.>>

Who asked for this?

<<And as far as bad customer service goes, Wyrom has been in here placating people as best he can for an issue he did not cause.>>

Where is this post? Because I haven't seen it. I've seen him and other GMs joking about the prize pool when other players, including me, have complained about what appears to be a "known issue."

<<...people simply tend to believe that good customer service = getting what they want.>>

I deal with customer service in my "real job" every day. I am well-acquainted with what constitutes good CS. Good CS is not seeing posts about what other players acknowledge is a "known problem" and then not responding to those posts.

1. Clicking on the title of a listing is the most common method of navigation on the Internet.

2. """But Wyrom it said "Get your tickets - Available 12/19/13 9PM EST" but that message never changed, it still said they will be available at 9PM so I thought you were running late and no one came to hold my hand and I just kept refreshing but it kept saying 9PM even at 9:05 and I didn't get a ticket and you should make an extra run just for me."""

If you must keep the second link have it say "CLICK HERE TO TRY TO BUY TICKETS" in bold red. Let that actual next page, the page you must refresh, be the one with the date and time on it. You absolutely cannot underestimate the ability for people to be confused.
