Boulder in centaurs is annoying 05/10/2015 12:02 AM CDT
I don't mind the cart rides for hunting centaurs. It tends to mean not many people hunt there (even less than Zul in general) so the trips out tend to be worthwhile for bounties.

I don't mind the boulder itself as a puzzle in the travel, but a puzzle in the middle of a hunting ground that breaks up groups is annoying. On the other side of the boulder, you don't even see anyone arrive from the west.

If possible, it would be nice if this could be looked into somehow. By now I don't expect the puzzle will move, but there are enough things on the EN trail that break up groups, we really don't need one in the middle of the centaurs.

It's been half a year and no one replied at all. Not surprising since it's...Zul. I linked the post today in a thread.

I should point out here that there are enough things in travel to EN that already break up groups, but I don't think they are in the middle of a spawning ground. A number of climbing checks also come to mind in hunting grounds that break up groups: the climb in the Krag Slopes to the Hidden Vale, and some climbs in Solhaven. I certainly can't attest to whether the exact behavior is or is not manifested other places in the game, but I was thinking usually the spawning isn't connected most the time (though this might be incorrect). The problem here isn't that it's "in the middle of a hunting area" but that it's "in the middle of a spawning area" such that crossing it is definitely necessary on a regular basis.

I am not sure if hunting areas fall under their aegis, but ZL did get a new guru recently that perhaps you could also bump on the matter?

It seems like the whole EN trail area could use a review though, certainly.

In the past it was stated that the area wasn't really designed for a hunting ground. I was populated with centaurs to give a bit of difficulty to the younger crowd passing through and to be able to provide some kind of method for those that require coins to pay the ferryman or the cart ride, should they be short on change.

While you certainly can hunt there, it wasn't built with the whole aspect of being a regular hunting ground.

except people are sent there for bounties/escorts.

Yeah I've done bounties there a few times. And for a place that no one hunts, I found the treasure to be surprisingly weak.

Also I just stayed on the west side of the boulder the whole time <shrug>. With split hunting grounds it doesn't usually pay to flit back and forth in my experience.

I'm responding rather late but...

Like I said...

You could hunt on just one side, but the spawning is almost certainly linked. So eventually there will be none left on the west side and they are all piled up on the east side. At least, when we go to the east side we immediately find them, and vice versa, implying they previously spawned.

And while I do agree they weren't "designed" as hunting ground, as was pointed out, bounties!

Even the puzzle itself can remain. I'm only asking it not break up a group.

On this part of the trail, centaurs have the boulder and vipers have the tree, which might also be considered a puzzle. Both are fairly more frustrating than a "normal" hunting area of similar level. Mostly this is the zoning & spawn rate - sometimes all of the critters spawn on the other side of the puzzle (meaning whichever side you're not on). I'd chalk both of these innovations up to someone's Science Experiment from years ago. The boars in the middle are the best innovation of all. Why would anyone hunt there if there weren't bounties? Boars didn't even have a charge maneuver when this area was added to the game. I'd agree that having separate zones on either side of any puzzles seems more playable.

Would it be difficulty to raise the floor on creatures spawns in all areas to a higher base level? Not every area needs to swarm like mad, but it would be nice to see a healthy amount of creatures regardless of where you're hunting.

Most places could use slower rather than higher spawn rates. They are already overbiassed towards high kill rate professions.

I agree about the tree in the Vipershroud. On one hand, it's the largest barrier having a level 3 character run to Zul and join GoS (which might good for design?!). But it's pretty annoying for hunting there when you have to keep going through that tree, climbing up and down that boulder, and the other things.

I'd take either split spawning or fixing something else about this, if it addresses the issue of "puzzles that split groups in the middle of a spawning area".

The boars do sound rough, but to me the point here isn't the time to get to a hunting ground. As I said at the outset, the cart ride, while a little troublesome, is pretty much okay with me for centaurs.
