Sometimes, a buckler makes all the difference 05/19/2014 05:55 PM CDT
Some Grimswarm with Ranger spells/attributes are completely immune to ambush punches when I hold a buckler, but are no more difficult to attack than their peers without. This is with 5 ranks of small shield focus, 5 ranks of shielded brawler. Notice the lack of any messaging regarding if the grimswarm is dodging, evading, blocking or their wall of thorns activating (which has a visible message that does display when it activates!)

You leap from hiding to strike!
You attempt to punch a Grimswarm giant hunter!
Your attack is hindered by holding a zelnorn buckler!

They have a highly-coveted yet poorly advertised skill called mock buckler.

You can't see anything because they are highly trained to only laugh on the inside.

Thanks for the detailed report. This is now resolved (and was related to Wall of Thorns, as you seemed to suspect).

>Sudden impact to chest! That'll make his day!

As a side note, that's still one of my favorite crit messages. I grinned when I came up with it, and still do whenever I see it.
