Pretty sure this is a bug with the Crystal Holding Jewelry. You can put a bound crystal from someone else's login rewards in the crystal holder and activate the crystal even if it was not yours.

No longer will you have to fear bound crystals in your jewelry! They've been blocked from use with Crystal Holding (TM!) jewelry.

For the wares in both Crystal Wood & Wooden Magic... the crystals, as sold off-the-shelf, have... just 1 charge? A bunch? Are (or are NOT) mage rechargeable?
Both shops' signs describe what spells are in each, but no additional details.

They are not mage rechargable, and they usually hold 10 or 20 charges depending on the spell.
