Do classes have weaknesses/strengths vs. one another similar to elemental attunement? Or is it only important for armaments?

From my understanding, it's only for for determining what armaments can be equipped.
It may be a small additional factor in battles that I'm not aware of, but I don't recall hearing anything to that effect.
