Novice Old Timer Question 05/07/2015 05:52 PM CDT
I recently came back after ~15 years off to find all sorts of new stuff to play with. One thing I haven't been able to find an answer to is the basic mechanics of the guild system -- if I Master Illusions, can I not Master Alchemy? Is the only ceiling how much effort I put into it? Or does specializing in one hamper the other?

I'm level 52 at present.

Thanks!

Welcome back. You can master all four of the sorcerer guild skills: Illusions, General Alchemy, Alchemic Potions, and Alchemic Trinkets. If you focus on just one skill it will get to a point where you are forced to diversify and train one of the other skills (a little) before advancing further. Each skill caps out at "master" when you reach rank 63; training everything in the guild adds up to 248 ranks. You can be promoted to Guildmaster and gain a new title once you have mastered at least one skill and have 125 total ranks. Let me know if you'd like some help with training illusions.

If you do everything, here's what it looks like:

>gld
You are Guild Master of the Sorcerer Guild.
You are current with your dues and must check in again sometime in the next 79 days.
You currently have 0 task trading vouchers.
You currently have 248 ranks out of a possible 372 for your training.

You are a Master of Illusions.

You are a Master of General Alchemy.

You are a Master of Alchemic Potions.

You are a Master of Alchemic Trinkets.

I should add that the total number of guild ranks you can earn among all of the skills is level dependent using, I believe, the formula (4*((Level-4)). So at level 52 you can earn 192 ranks of the 248 ranks you need to master everything.

How many guild skill ranks you can have is based on experience, not level. Wish I had tracked that years ago when I had been leveling up. And yes you need to diversify, one rank of something else for every 5 ranks in your highest skill. You also can't have more ranks in trinkets and potions then you do in generally alchemy. Once you master all three alchemy skills you get the title of Grandmaster Alchemist.

If anyone would like to assist in completing the general guild mechanics page, there seems to be some knowledgeable people paying attention.

Thanks for all the info Silvean's player, and Mark. That's exactly what I was looking for. (and oddly wasn't on the wiki!) So much to learn!

I also learned today that people need to be in your group before attempting to go through your Planar Shift rift. Sigh.

Glad to see you're still around after all these years, Silvean. I didn't know you, but I certainly knew OF you.

Cheers,
