Skill Migration oddity 03/27/2016 05:48 PM CDT
So I'm migrating my skills and have run into a rather weird issue it seems. The skill migration in game time to goal has kept changing by going up the longer I have waited for it to be completed even though the migration rate stayed the same. What would be causing the In-Game Time To Goal to not display properly?

Below is an abbreviated list of the changes.

That time left til goal is incorrect, as it should be = 26 days, 6 hours, 59 minutes, 30 seconds

9.275 - 8 = 1.275 ranks
1.275 * 64 = 81.6 TPs
80 - 68.238 = 11.762 migration TPs left at 0.002/pulse
81.6 - 11.762 = 69.838 TPs remaining at 0.001/pulse
11.762 / .002 = 5881 pulses
69.838 / .001 = 69838 pulses (assumption 1 pulse = 30 seconds)
(5881 + 69838) * 30s / 60s / 60m = 630.991667 hours

When you migrate points, you base it on the cost of the skill. Each rank of spell research is 32 mental, so you're only migrating 40.8 TPs, not 81.6.

In other words, you don't pay a penalty for migrating converted points. 64 PTP pretending to be 32 MTP migrates at the same rate as 32 real MTP. If you have a 3/1 skill that you paid 5 PTP for, you're still only migrating 4: 3 PTP, 1 MTP. And so on.

Even with that being the case, the time shown is rather far off from what it should be displayed as.

9.275 - 8 = 1.275 ranks
1.275 * 32 = 40.8 TPs
80 - 68.238 = 11.762 migration TPs left at 0.002/pulse
40.8 - 11.762 = 29.038 TPs remaining at 0.001/pulse
11.762 / .002 = 5881 pulses
29.038 / .001 = 29038 pulses (assumption 1 pulse = 30 seconds)
(5881 + 29038) * 30s / 60s / 60m = 290.991667 hours

12 days, 2 hours, 59 mins, 30 seconds

There are a number of things the time estimate doesn't cope well with. It has dubious assumptions and outright bugs once you get over the 60 point mark. The bottom line is that if you are migrating anything of any significance you need to do your own extrapolation.
