should be quite playable.

Check what Cmans you have. There are new armor and shield skills you can buy with your training in those skills as well as new CMans that you may well want instead of your existing ones.

You might also want to check out the new Unarmed Combat System (referred to as UAC) and substitute brawling for OHB. Quite deadly with proper training. The only caveat is that you will have to use a UAC compatible weapon rather than hand and foot wraps (or UAC gloves and boots) on the occasional creature that can't be touched with hands or feet; stone sentinels come to mind. This, alas, reduces the effectiveness of the attack. You can, of course, also use brawling weapons for the traditional ambush attack as well. I like sticking a sai in something's neck, myself. (Note: sais apparently are not UAC compatible; not all brawling weapons are).

Here's a clip of my level 51 rogue vs a stone troll using the UAC. I actually killed it while lying down (don't try this at home, folks). I'm actually not sure how I can leap from hiding when prone; I suspect it has to do with the fact that they are so tall, you have to whack their legs (or feet) first to get the head within striking range. Smashing it's foot to pieces from that position seems feasible in that case. As for Cmans, if you train in S&H, get vanish ... seriously.

Oh, and Rathboner mentioned new CMan, armor and shield skills also. Here is a sampling; not saying this is an ideal selection, but will give you an idea what sort of thing is available. Check them out using the shield (or armor or CMan) profession list command in game. Note that rogues have a different CMan, shield and armor skiil selection list than do warriors and paladins.

The abdomen is almost as good a target for the killing punch as the head. If the critter is too tall to punch its head without a knockdown, but the abdomen is in range, punching its stomach out the back of its abdomen is a good alternative to teeth out the back of its head. Stone critters have tough enough skin that the difference between head and abdomen is significant, but for those with not quite so much armor:

hide
punch
hide
punch head if downed, or abdomen if standing

Not only do you get a second faster with the opening unaimed punch, you get a rather higher fraction of kills on the first attack.

Interesting; I would not have thought of the abdomen as a target for an aimed kill shot. Seems to work, though. I don't like the idea of an unaimed first attack, however. Two hits on the same area are probably needed for a kill with these things, and while stone critters throw off a stun very quickly, it lasts long enough for me to hide again, so the extra 1 second RT doesn't seem to be a real consideration ... unless there is a second critter in the room. In that case, however, I can either use vanish after attacking, or try divert beforehand to get rid of the second opponent. Even if I miss getting a stun entirely, a well timed vanish would still save me from a counterattack.

One caveat with vanish: it's stamina intensive, so keep track of that lest you get muscle strain. (From experience, I know I can pull it off three times in a row, then have to rest for a bit.)

If a critter has an 8s action timer, my normal lag allows me to fit 5s worth of hard RT actions within that with comfort, 6s with spamming gets me hurt occasionally and trying for 7s will get me hurt every time. 1s less of RT can be a big deal to me when the critter action timer gets to 6 or 8s. (and vanish is mandatory once it gets to 4, except the 4s n'ecares are a bit too perceptive and its almost always painful taking them on)

While sometimes you need two hits to the same area (unlike other attack types non fatal rank 3 UAC wounds can stack to death crits), the kill shot in that clip of yours is a kill whatever previous damage the troll had taken. You just need to get to excellent position to be able to deliver it and can do that with the previous ambush being random or targetted elsewhere.
