Black ora polearms 05/03/2009 03:47 PM CDT
I've noticed several black ora polearms for sale in player shops. Is this the 'cursed' black ora that I saw last time I was around, with mana regen bonus and interesting flares?

Doubtful, unless it's very expensive. There has unfortunately been the release of quite ordinary black ora (as well as veil iron) through the treasure system. Nothing fun. If you're looking for a legitimate black ora (of the perma-cursed, flaring, scripted variety), be sure to verify any weapon prior to purchasing.

Highly doubt it

Does "ordinary" black ora have any special effects? Or is is just 2x?

I've got a "minor" black ora jeddart axe in my locker that I'm not using.

I'm all confused now. As per the krakii site, there is apparently 'minor' black ora and 'major' black ora. Are treasure-system found black ora weapons 'minor' black ora? Like, presumably, this one:
http://www.playershops.com/item_detail.pl?item=a%20black%20ora%20twohanded%20sword

Surely this black ora is not increasing mana regen, cursed, and shadow-flaring?

How much would a 'minor' black-ora jeddart axe go for?

there is major black ora
(bunch of fancy stuff)

minor black ora
(not quite as much fancy stuff)

and ora that happens to be black
(2x vanilla)

In all likelihood, the ora in the treasure system is ora that happens to be black.

At 75k, i can almost guarantee that weapon is ora that happens to be black.

Note, however, that the 75k item is not a black-dyed ora item. As it says on the page:

"After a careful inspection you determine that a black ora twohanded sword requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively. It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of black ora."

So the material itself IS black ora.

No, they're "junk" black ora. Which is to say, almost the same as green or blue or purple ora. As I understand, they start life with a one-time curse, but with no scripts or flares or anything else interesting. (Maybe they're still permanently cursed? I'm not sure.) Either way, they really aren't worth much to anyone.

The only difference between minor and major is this (on KP): "Major black ora weapons have all the same features but additionally can be attended once per day to teleport the user to a preset location."

As a guess, say 10-15 million for minor and 40+ for major. If you'd like a better appraisal, head to the marketplace folder.

Yeah, but that distinction doesn't matter so much anymore. For whatever reason, it was decided to dump boring black ora and veil iron into the treasure system, and the materials that were once considered extraordinarily rare are, well, not.

gemstone is known to be 100% consistent in terms of materials and their specially scripted properties, so i guess you're right.

I'll say it again: it is ridiculously unlikely that is a true, scripted black ora item. Feel free to drop 75k on it.

Greater Black Ora - Fancy stuff/teleportation/stat bonus
Lesser Black Ora - Fancy stuff
(no designation) Black Ora - Junk

Jinsem?

More seriously, the material it inspects as does matter to a lot of people, whether for alteration fodder, or to have a weapon that is made of a certain type of metal. I happen to like golvern myself, and I will pay (and have paid) large premiums in price simply because the material field is "golvern" as opposed to anything else. Black ora is rather common these days though, unfortunately.

Yeah, I noticed he'd been buying them up before, but given the player shop prices it looks like he's had his fill. I suspect he has enough for a massive black ora golem by now, or whatever it was he had planned.

He's been away from the game is why there's still cheap black ora around.

I think Jinsem is deployed to Iraq right now. But when he comes back, I think he'll be pleased at prices. He was happily paying more for every piece of black ora to come out of the system than people are even asking for it now. Not sure he'll be so happy at how common it is though.

Hmm, I may well have been mistaken about my jeddart axe then. It was critter-found, and cursed me as soon as I picked it up, so I assumed that it had all the black ora properties. I'll have to check it out later.

I was wondering why people didn't seem interested when I found it. :-\
