One handed pole arms don't get the Pole Arm DS bonus. 11/21/2006 03:29 PM CST
Was hunting the warrior and noted that he wasn't getting the DS bonus that pole arm users enjoy when he used his pole arm one handed. Is this meant to be?

Example...

A giant rat tries to bite you!
AS: +34 vs DS: +30 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +50 = +84
A clean miss.
>
You thrust with an ash-shafted vine-carved partisan at a giant rat!
AS: +100 vs DS: +14 with AvD: +28 + d100 roll: +80 = +194
... and hit for 80 points of damage!
Shot to back shatters bone and vertebrae!
The giant rat collapses to the ground, emits a final squeal, and dies.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
R>Loot
You search the giant rat.
It had nothing of interest.
A giant rat decays into a pile of mangy hair and bone.
>stance
You are currently at an offensive stance.
>
>grip my partisan
You grip the vine-carved partisan with both hands.
>
A giant rat tries to bite you!
AS: +34 vs DS: +47 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +88 = +105
... and hits for 2 points of damage!
Tap to the arm pricks some interest but not much else.

The barbarities of war are seldom committed by abnormal men. The tragedy of war is that these horrors are committed by normal men in abnormal situations. "Breaker Morrant"

Yes.

You only get a DS boost for two handed weapons, or a similar one for two weapon combat.

Presumably the presumption is that you are shortening up on the grip to use it one handed, so you have to get closer to the foe, hence the DS bonus for a long reach weapon is lost.

Plus if you Grip it one-handed can't you also use a shield on the other arm, in theory at least? If so that would really boost your DS if you also got the normal two-handed bonus.

Right; all my polearms people have a grippable polearm in addition to a lance, and train in shield also, for those times when you need a bit of extra bolt DS.
