Paladin spell group effects 11/19/2017 10:12 PM CST
Could we PLEASE get a way to toggle the group aspect to our spells? It creates a lot of unnecessary screen scroll in certain situations. I always forget the STOP the spells before I join up with people.

apparently we get the scroll, everyone else does not. it would be nice if it were a general message for the paladin though that says "Your group" instead of listing each individual person. sometimes we group with 30 or more for RP and it's screens of spam.

Why are you stopping the spells? To avoid the caster messages?

It isn't just caster messaging. As the group leader I routinely see walls of spell dropping text. Also based on other people's comments I'm fairly certain they see these as well.

Just scrolling through my logs from our last service night (11/15) I found the following spell walls of text for 4 different spells (none of these are from spells that I cast as a wizard):

>Khylynnia appears less confident.
>You feel less confident.
>Sothog appears less confident.
>Azerik appears less confident.
>Kotin appears less confident.
>Pipitta appears less confident.
>Joness appears less confident.
>Brewyte appears less confident.
>Keilani appears less confident.
>Kittai appears less confident.
>Tetreves appears less confident.
>Kelyse appears less confident.
>Afall appears less confident.
>Rdum appears less confident.

>You feel more refreshed.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Sothog.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Kerven.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Azerik.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Kotin.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Pipitta.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Joness.
>The brilliant aura fades away from you.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Brewyte.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Keilani.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Kittai.
>The brilliant aura fades away from Tetreves.

<<spell walls of text>>

It's certainly not a perfect solution, especially for those who don't use Lich, but....

If you use Lich, there's a script called 'spellmerge' that merges the walls of text into a much smaller, denser paragraph.

-Normal Spell Wall-
>Khylynnia appears less confident.
>You feel less confident.
>Sothog appears less confident.
>Azerik appears less confident.
>Kotin appears less confident.
>Pipitta appears less confident.
>Joness appears less confident.

>Keilani appears less confident.
>Kittai appears less confident.
>Tetreves appears less confident.
>Kelyse appears less confident.
>Afall appears less confident.
>Rdum appears less confident.

-Spellmerge Wall-
>Khylynnia, Sothog, Azerik, Kotin, Pipitta, Joness, Brewyte, Keilani, Kittai, Tetreves, Kelyse, Afall, and Rdum appear(s) less confident.

Again, not perfect, since it requires Lich, but could be a band-aid, until something GS-code may be implemented.

this exact same discussion occurred at the beginning of EG. that "solution" is still spammy and does not stop the lag it causes.

Yes.
I actually didn't realize the spell messaging was changed so that only the caster sees, but in RP events, it is brutal for me to try to see what's going on in the middle of sometimes several screens worth of spells being tacked on to others then the spells dropping. I can squelch it, I can use a lich script to mitigate it, but it sometimes does cause a slowdown on my end, plus I can miss things. Personally, I would prefer a hard toggle like a flag setting, but even if the group version was changed to an evoke or channel, it would be helpful.

And, as with the "HoA Reim assaults", squelching the text here at our end does nothing whatsoever to reduce the server load which is generating the messages at Simu's end.

That should pretty much be a Goal.

None of the spells you listed are actually the new group spells. You listed 211, 215, 219, and song of kai.

We're aware that players are currently unhappy with the volume of messaging that they're exposed to. Spell fade messaging is rooted in the current base design of spells, so there isn't a quick fix to eliminate it without going through each problem spell one by one. We also don't just want to rip out all fade messing as that would probably cause more problems than it fixes.

It helps to know the specific spells that are the biggest offenders for individual reviews. I was constantly seeing complaints about "group spells" being the offenders, even after I restricted the spell application + fade messaging to casters and targets. Now that I know the current offenders are the 2 minute group applications of single cast spells that people unlock with lore benefits I can look towards the right locations for potential solutions.

Seeing the listing there for Spell Shield/219 reminded me to look, and according to the GSWiki WizShield/919 is already available for other-cast, but Faith Shield/1619 is not (so, self-cast only).

Any thoughts on allowing a Lore unlock, similar to the Major Spirit spells?
Group ability on WizShield would be a huge mana savings, while gaining the ability to affect others at all would be a big addition to Faith Shield.

.

Thanks for considering it!

For me personally, it is specifically the group aspect to paladin spells, and not the others.

Apologies. I didn't mean to derail your thread direction. I'm not greatly bothered by walls of text all that much personally but was trying to offer examples of where I had recently seen them. I also don't find them particularly useful and anything that can cut down on the near nightly lag the game has recently been experiencing would be a win in my book.

Examples seem to go a long way in helping to have specific issues addressed. If you have some examples of what you are hoping to have addressed, possibly posting a snippet or two may provide additional assistance in getting to a quicker resolution.

Really? I don't see why an "example" is needed when I am specifically talking about paladin spells and there aren't exactly a plethora of spells that have group aspects. But since it seems that an example is needed, here is an example:
