Hi all,

I'm visiting GS again after being gone a few years (6-7?) and looking for info on pally builds.

Can anyone point me towards the dev expectations of a pally to get me started? While I generally (always) do my own thing, I do want to know what the devs expect before I start tweaking. 1x spell? .75x? 1x lores?

I'm currently level 96 and was in OTF before my absence. Prior, I was one of the pally-clerics, with double chain and a targeted triple mstrike.

Dev expectations
150 ranks of armor
1x CM
2x weapon
1-2x of defense skill (shields/dodge)
.75 spells
1x PT
24 ranks of mana share
.5x-1x HP
.5x-1x lores

Realistic expectations
150 ranks of armor or better
1.5-2x CM
2x weapon
1x defense skill (Unless it's sword board 2x shields)
1x spells to (40/30 or 20 depending on preference)
1x-2x PT
skip mana share unless you're raise happy
1x HP
And if you have any points left over...nevermind you won't

Is there any benefit to pally spell circle past 40? The CML bonus looked decent, but what else is there besides CS boost?

On the minor spiritual side... is there a point to go to 140 for wall? if I can live without 130 and 125 (and I can) 120 looks to be plenty and skip wall as an emergency spell. (Or, is there a use besides emergency?)

Your AS goes up, and is not capped, with 1611.

Short term?

Nope. Start bulking up your physical skills for redux and filling in any wanted/needed tertiary skills.

Long term? At cap/post-cap you'll want to go ahead push to 1x spells.

I'll have 1640/140 at Cap, simply because spell training costs are our highest expenditure. Some day, waaaay in the future, I'll start again on the paladin list, once I've done a bunch of other things, including lores beyond the base I have currently at 92nd.

I've always been a bit of a mutant build. I singled spells until 1640/130 were hit. I'm in Plat, so being able to raise helps more than in prime (and I would love to lobby again for full experience for raises).

I use a shield, too, which seems anachronistic, even though we're designed to be shield users. If you can get your hands on an eonake/sanctified shield, 1608 flares with Shield Bash are the bomb, especially when they double flare.

I personally have 81P/20MnS. I don't really see the benefit of training up to 140 when you can easily get a 40 charge ruby amulet.

140 gives either +10 or +20 DS over stopping at 120 (without or with 102 cast). Not to mention, some folks do not train in MIU. You can also tack on CS for area webs if you like.

120 would net you an additional +10 if you trained to 140.

But perhaps I should have rephrased my comment. Obviously, there are mechanical benefits; I just don't personally think they justify training up that high. I prefer to increase my Paladin CS/circle benefits over the MnS CS/circle benefits. To each is own though.

All good info, thanks. I currently have 140/1640, but debating whether to drop to 120/1660 (or higher) for the additional CM/AS benefit, as well as CS.

I'm also going to drop MStrike down to double ranks (::cough:: I had full triple strike, as that was fun as a war cleric), and looking at dropping PT down to 1.5x (currently 2x).

I know PT is #1 factor in redux, but 2x seems high, and I'm only at 1x CM right now.

(Yes, was gone a long time... and my current build I didn't actually do) Definitely playable, but want to take advantage of fixskills while I can. If I completely fubar it, I can always undo.

All,

With two days before my fixskills, I want to burn the one I have before it's wasted (and, worst case.. I can undo it).

My current skills are below. My current thoughts are to drop mstrike to 30 ranks; mstrike is a blast, but a focused triple strike with a morning star is a lot of RT, and I have poor agi stat to reduce it.

My thoughts...

1) drop mstrike down to 30 ranks
2) get religion to 25 (not sure why it's at 24)
3) Get CM up more... 1.25x? 1.4x
4) I can live with 120, and want to see the CS boost: switch from 140/1640 to 120/1660.
5) PT: drop a bit for points.. maybe down to 1.5x?

Arcane symbols is for spellburst; cheaper than MIU.

Is 2x shield and full 1x dodge overkill, especially with evade DS hindered by full plate and a shield?

I don't personally think 2x Shield/1x Dodge is overkill.

Does seem like a lot of AS just for spellburst though. Shouldn't need that many outside spells with your current defensive capabilities.

Mstrike is, imo, the best skill in the game. I can't get enough of it (70 ranks and stopped for the moment -- I'll push onwarf way post cap).
