An ornate leather vambrace 07/13/2013 01:35 AM CDT
This is Wyrom's creation for RtCF and is one of 3 scheduled to be released. CB is 50m to Nordred.

The vambrace allows you to load it with trap components and fire it at critters. Success is based in large part on your perception training. At 2x perception, I almost never miss even when uphunting. Wyrom has told me that if you are uphunting over 10 levels you'll start to miss more. Your perception training factors into this, so the more perception you have, the less you'll miss. You can also load it with brimstones which is nice if you don't have access to trap components, it has a slot to hold a dagger, and is heavily scripted.

If you use it too much, it is possible to overheat it. This feature also seems to be training related, with a random component. At 2x perception, most of the time I won't overheat it unless I hit successfully 2-3 times in a hunt. There is also some variation in this based on what ammo you load it with. Smooth stones, (which are wet noodles for ammo), also seem to overheat it more than other better types of ammo. That's my experience anyway, so stick to spheres, vials and brimstones and other powerful trap components. Needles too if you want to poison. Much of this info is spelled out via the analyze verb, which I've quoted below along with some combat clips.

Here are various verb traps:

Turn lets you switch which arm you want to wear it on, (requires an open hand on that arm to fire). So if you're an ohe ambusher you can put it on your left arm and fire it left handed.

You slip the leather vambrace off of your right forearm.
>turn vambrace
You adjust the leather vambrace to be worn on your left forearm.

>clench vamb
You flick your right wrist, causing the feras blade to peek out from inside your leather vambrace's narrow slit.

>spin vambrace
You rotate your right forearm, exposing the feras blade inside the leather vambrace's narrow slit.

>look at vamb
The leather vambrace is set to be worn on the right forearm. It is completely overheated, but should be ready to be fixed. The vambrace's small chamber isn't currently loaded. A glint of feras metal can be seen in a narrow slit at the base of the leather vambrace. There is a small lever on the side of the vambrace.

With a roar, a thick glass vial comes firing out of the vambrace and hits the Vvrael destroyer in the right arm! The vial shatters on the Vvrael destroyer, releasing its contents.

The Vvrael destroyer avoids the worst of the attack but still gets a singed forearm.

This item can be altered, keeping in mind parts of the show description are part of the script and cannot be changed. This also supports having both a long and a show description.

Usage Instructions:

The leather vambrace can be loaded with certain ammo, such as lockmastery trap components, smooth stones, poison vials, sneezing vials, and brimstone gems. It can also discreetly store a small metal-bladed weapon. If the user is not very dexterous, they can jam the ammo while loading it. It will then need to be unloaded. The user can also unload a loaded vambrace at any time, but it will result in destroying any ammo. No ammo can be recovered once loaded, included jammed ammo.

Once loaded, the vambrace can be pointed at a target to fire the ammo at it. The user will undergo a series of checks to perception and dexterity, as well as the target creature's level and user's stance. If successful, the target will be damaged. Failure will result in the vambrace misfiring and/or backfiring. All ammo is destroyed after usage and cannot be recovered.

Each type of ammo will cause the vambrace to overheat at different levels. If the vambrace isn't used for an hour and hasn't overheated, it will cool down. But once it overheats, the user will need to wait an hour before fixing it. Occasionally, the firing pin will break, requiring a steel spring to fix it.

To fire the vambrace, it will require an empty hand. It can switch which forearm it is worn on by turning it. A highly perceptive user will have much better success when using the vambrace, as well as being able to aim a lot better. It also has a narrow slit at the base of the vambrace where a small metal-bladed weapon can be stored. By prodding and snapping the bracer, its handler can quickly access this weapon.

StormFront users will have a drop down menu on the vambrace for all commands.

You get no sense of whether or not the vambrace may be further lightened.

It is a fun toy, and quite original. But this is spot on perfect for some rogue out there.
