Creatures that summon creatures, and ki'lin 06/09/2015 04:55 AM CDT
Beacon Hall is planning a ki'lin hunt around the Landing in August, as our first formal event after the annex opening ceremony and tour in July.

This is not only of Kaldonis's interest, but mine too! Ever one time I saw a ki'lin, but it was at CCF and was GM-summoned so someone could test extraplanar bane. (That's today's signature.)

With some help of others, I was the one in recent times to construct a comprehensive picture of moor wights and their summoning properties.

You may view those existing pages: http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Greater_moor_wight and http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Lesser_moor_wight

Unexpectedly, I (re?)discovered that their summoning powers depend on the room terrain (as ascertained by a ranger). I still haven't gotten a lesser moor wight to summon a spectral black warhorse in River's Rest, but I think if I follow one around long enough (I tried for 2 hours last night), I understand most the requisite conditions.

As for ki'lin, the situation is less clear at the moment: http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/Ki-lin

Monastic liches at least have been confirmed, although I have also heard/read that Sheruvian monks may also have this power.

After confirming my suspicions about the exact conditions for lesser moor wights to summon spectral black warhorses (which may finally require a trip to the Black Moor?), I am curious to get the information on the Monastery for terrain (I'll get my wife to drag her ranger along for the dirty work). I have also been attempting to get information like whether summoning by moor wights can be done without an arm, at different health levels, etc. It seems if they are dispelled, they will prefer to use action rounds to get their spells back. I'm not yet sure if they seem to need or use mana in summoning, but it's on my list of things to experiment with.

Eventually, one goal of the ki'lin hunt is to know something more specific about the proper conditions required, although we may not even be successful to find any. In the case it becomes spoiler material, if I edit the gswiki page, I will add spoiler tags.

Anyone have some info for me? All I got so far is that bigger groups seem to be more successful.

The only time I ever saw one summoned, I think it was a group of three of us: Gremlynn, her husband Geoff, and myself. There was a good swarm going on--I think there were another 1-5 people wandering the Monastery at the time, taking breaks/recovering mana/resting in the Chamber--and Gremlynn said for us NOT to kill them as quickly as we could.
* Safety note: this was long before Force-on-Force considerations... so adjust your hunting tactics accordingly.

I think it took us probably 10-20 minutes of standing around watching a WHOLE lot of attacks scroll past before one got summoned. And yes, it was only one.

We failed the skinning, too. :(

Thanks! Must have had a brain fart. The ki-lin page is significantly improved by anyone not named daid. The wight pages' content seems like my old work still.

Kaldonis not only knows Wall of Force, but has a customized spell preparation message. Most of the main BHA team at present (particularly officers) are Citadel or post-Citadel.

But, we're gonna need to watch out for the red horn of death! Tactics rules I've devised so far: only sorcerers can cast at ki-lin to do damage, with no flaring runestaff in hand (namely, 703, 706, and 711 at most...if 706 works). Calm and Blinding are okay, as should be warding Web. Most other options I would rule out. Then if we've split to many parties, we would have previously nominated the best skinner. Skinner arrives, ki-lin is induced to death by Pain. Then a skinning attempt is done.

The only time I ever saw one summoned, it was about 20 years ago and it was a group of four or five of us - I think Gherik, my first ranger character, Tanri, and maybe Thorin and another? It was completely out of the blue. The weird thing is that I could have sworn it was in shadow mares down in Shadow Valley, although we did hunt the monastery before the Valley so it may just be me. Another reason to fire up an old computer to look for old log files. (I remember renaming the log file so it wouldn't get lost.)

My ranger did the skinning and I was shaking as I typed in that command. Still have the horn, too!

Life is short, so tell someone today that you love them. But shout it loudly in Faendryl, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

A little late to the convo, but I have seen them summoned at least twice, in both the Sheruvian monastery and the other monastery. At least one skinning was successful, I think Truekillr did it, but don't remember for sure. I may or may not have skinned the other one.
