Does training in a weapon skill make it easier to get ranks when learning how to forge that weapon type?

Maybe it's just bias or luck with the RNG, but I seem to have progressed through learning blunts (full 2x) much faster then when I was learning OHE (0 ranks). Got all the way down to 495 ranks before going more then an hour without getting one...
