I have been using this spell to do greater elemental AG tasks in the bowels. I had no idea the "radiant energy" was hot enough to set off the gas in the bowels. I guess I have been lucky until now.

So, now i can say that yes, it can set off the gas, just as if it were a fire/plasma/lightning based spell. Ouch. Guess I will just have to turn down elemental tasks there.

Empathic assault does plasma damage in its initial strike. It would make sense to set off the gas in the bowels, like any other plasma-based spell.

My strategy for taking down elementals was to web them with web bolt, and then burn through crystal wands. It's highly inefficient, however, so I never hunted them except to take them out when they were in the way of my real target.

Hmm, I was at one point using unbalance to knock the beggers down, them whack them with a 7x THW. Then, on May 19th, I fixskilled Guenn into a pure caster just to see how she did. After that, I had been using unbalance followed by empathic bolt to do Greater Elemental tasks. In retrospect, I guess I was just lucky; I did something like 4 tasks that way successfully, before the last explosion.

I used it regularly but not constantly... would usually try and make sure was not after sensing the gases in the room.. but does use a bit of luck too, never blown up from it but as I said wasn't constantly used.
