Faendryl Symposium -- Updates and Links 07/14/2018 01:39 AM CDT
The first couple of days are complete, and we have logs of the highlights posted below (these will also be on the wiki soon). We had a ton of things going on in-game over the past few days, from the Midsummer Night's Festival to other MHO events, so I want to thank the people who came out to support us. Hope you have all been enjoying it as much as we're enjoying hosting it!

- Nazarr's round-robin story: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium/round-robin

- Yhtrin's discussion of the Faendryl cleric's relationship to the Arkati: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium/arkati

- Lylia's/my Igaeshian divination discussion and demonstration: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium/igaesha

- Nazarr's storytelling: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium/storytelling

Events still to come include Xorus' presentation on the Ashrim War, Berkana's sampling of Faendryl food and drink (almost guaranteed to be bug-free!), Ysharra's discussion on flora and botanical culture, an overview of Faendryl fashion by yours truly. Saturday will also be the big gala event, a masquerade ball, and we hope to have some other visitors this weekend too, including a merchant (just in case anyone isn't already merchanted out after the sprites). Check here for updates to our schedule as we may add more guest speakers: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium

In the meantime, please feel free to visit the Alabaster Spire (;go2 works for "Alabaster Spire" or for "Faendryl Enclave" to get you there), which is currently open for visitors and showcasing an array of Faendryl art on loan from the first Symposium. You'll also find ices and teas in the garden and an assortment of arthropods on the dining room table inside.

I have not made absolutely sure that there are no missing lines, but the log should be on point.

I am so glad I could make your lecture.

I would also like to apologize to the Enclave. I had every intention of being around Sunday for some events and Rp, but lightning hit my chimney Sunday morning and blew out my internet (we we as most things electronic in my house and a nice hole in the roof). I just got the internet fixed. Please continue to put up logs so I can go read them!

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible Sunday and I'm glad that, despite the misfortunes, everyone is all right.

As for links, we have everything here: https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium

>As for links, we have everything here:

Miss Newsby wants to link up the information from the Symposium, but all she can find are individual links. Is there a way to make a menu page of them for reference, please? The TownCrier can't make all individual headlines nor fit that much in one.

Thank you ever so much for considering it!

Thank you. :) It was like: "Oh, Ambassador! What a surprise. I'm.. um... talking about your job."

I'm sorry to hear the Ashrim did vengeance on your house.

I will probably put a version on the Wiki with lots of links to the relevant documentation throughout. There is a lot cross-referencing, immediate factual references, and tacit information. What I read into the Elves was basically 19th century and World War I era European realpolitik, along with some divine right of kings and enlightened despotism. Playing off the real world meaning of "spheres of influence" along with the same term for the game's religious documentation. Where it was a little dicey is Mnar's player wrote a captain's journal describing the Ashrim war events for the Elanthian Times around 2000-2002, which might have no official standing or sanction at all for all I know, and then later with the Wavedancer there was a mini-quest where you actually witnessed the destruction. But I was not there so I do not know which war details were validated.

I wanted the whole thing to sound less irrational than it seems. Where Chesylcha is treated more as Archduke Ferdinand than Helen of Troy, even though I suspect the latter is more in keeping with original story. The impression I have is the Faendryl were initially supposed to be more Drow than Slytherin. It makes sense that the institutional push for state airships would have disrupted balances of power. Then the Faendryl suddenly building a huge havy is directly analogous to what Germany did right before World War I.

Xorus --

That was absolutely brilliant. It's rare that an in-game presentation makes me want to read more real-world history, but this one did. Thank you!

Oh, no, Valyrka! I'm glad you're all right and that the damage wasn't catastrophic.

It was a pleasure to see Ambassador Tredohal there, and all the lectures and events are available at https://sites.google.com/view/alabasterspire/home/events/symposium . (If anyone's having trouble with this, the navigation bar on the left opens out to reveal links to all the events.) Your offering the artwork on loan was also excellent; the art sparked more than a few discussions on Faendryl culture and history.

Huge thanks are due to everyone who presented, participated, and organized behind the scenes.
