Boost Bounty QOL suggestion 01/04/2022 08:03 AM CST
When you use the BOOST BOUNTY command you should be able to just choose which type of bounty task you want instead of having to sit there and remove/add tasks until the get the type of bounty task you are looking for (eq.: gems). Sometimes you can get the type of task you want quickly but sometimes you end up sitting there and spamming the room for a few minutes. It would be a QOL improvement for everyone, esp. those of us who don't script everything.
Thx

Boost doesn't spam, it turns off 3rd party messaging so you only know who is boosting if they tell you so that only they burn a boost to get a task for the party.

Expedite is what causes the spam. Getting rid of expedite would be QoL for those that aren't using it.

This is a great suggestion that gets a +1 from me. I don't feel that spamming the room or not is the issue. The intent of the boost is to let you pick the bounty you want. But its current implementation, even after you use the boost you still have to beat a RNG to get the type of bounty you want. And it can get frustrating when you want task A and keep getting everything but that.

Use a bounty boost, then ASK RHET ABOUT BOUNTY GEM/BANDIT/HERB/CREATURE/ESCORT/etc.

My understanding of the boosts was that they allowed you to EXclude one type of bounty from the selection. So if there is a field of seven types (A B C D E F G) available, and you want to do ONLY type 'C', then you need to spend six (6) boosts: one each to exclude A, B, D, E, F, and G.

Exclude one.

That is literally the exact opposite of "choose the one you want," as expressed here.

.

Yes, you can eventually arrive at "only the one that I want is available to be given to me", but it is by design more expensive. (Use lotsa Boosts to achieve that lockout.)

I thought that you could only use ONE at a time, so you are still left playing the Lottery with the taskmaster for the other 6.

I don't do bounties, so I cannot speak to the mechanical workings.
However, the impression that I had gotten from the description (when they were released) is as I said.

There are two different boosts in regards to bounties.

Krakii brought up bounty task waivers, which are not the boost being discussed. These are the ones let you exclude one type of bounty for a specific amount of time. For what it's worth, I think Luxelle is correct that you can only use one of these at a time, so you can't use multiples to get down to one specific task.

This discussion is about the bounty boost, which lets you ask for a new task every 5 seconds until you share a task or successfully complete one. This functionally lets you pick your task, but it can be a headache. The request the OP made and that I agreed with was a QOL request. Say you want a gem task. Currently, the process is something like this:

Use bounty boost
ASK RHET ABOUT BO
Rhet gives you an escort task
wait 5 seconds
ASK RHET ABOUT RE
ASK RHET ABOUT RE
ASK RHET ABOUT BO
Rhet gives you an heirloom task
wait 5 seconds
ASK RHET ABOUT RE
ASK RHET ABOUT RE
ASK RHET ABOUT BO
Rhet gives you an escort task
wait 5 seconds

And so on and so on until you get the task you want. The alternative I suggested was this:

Use bounty boost
ASK RHET ABOUT BOUNTY GEM
Rhet gives you a gem task

This boost gives us the ability to pick our task. So why give us the headache of having to beat the RNG to get to that task? It's an unnecessary time sink that makes no sense.

Excellent clarification, thanks!

What happens when--given the level limits imposed by harder/easier shifts, creatures in the environs, and so on--the type that you are looking for is simply unavailable?

Then you wasted a boost!

Or should head quickly over to a town that does have the level range/task available as an option for you (or adjust harder/easier tasks).

Krakii's question seems more about general Adventurer's Guild mechanics, and not specifically the boost bounty. I think if you ask for a bounty in an area without level-appropriate creatures, you will either get nothing, escort, or bandit tasks, depending on a number of factors.

It needs to be

ASK RHET ABOUT BOUNTY GEM 5 UNCUT DIAMONDS

ASK RHET ABOUT ESCORT ZUL LOGOTH

ASK RHET ABOUT BANDITS ICEMULE TRAIL

to match current functionality of boosts.

If I don't like the first gem task I get from a boost, or the first bandit location, or the first escort destination, I keep asking. For some things, e.g. getting the same escort destination as your partner, or allowing a house bandit hunt to stay together, this feature is pretty important.

I'm not opposed to it, but the rewards for bounties probably should be normalized more before players are allowed to select among them. We discussed this in another thread fairly recently. Some tasks are too easily gamed and offer much better rewards than others where there is actual risk, or might require some time to finish. Some are quick to turn in but can't be shared.

I could see the taskmaster offering perhaps several options instead of just 1. For example, the guild needs someone to escort a traveler to some remote tavern, to forage some weeds nearby, or to find 10 rubies. This would need some figuring out, but would also make exchanging tasks less of an issue, and boosts could still be used to select a particular bounty type.
