HURL BUG, lost weapon 12/16/2021 10:06 AM CST
I don't know if the bug is part of the HURL mechanics or part of the recently added weapon skills: OVERPOWER in this particular case.

My character is oddly built. He HURLs THW for his main fighting style.

Skills:

He doesn't swing THW, but does train .5x in them so he gets some DS benefit while holding it in his hands.

I was out hunting him for the first time since weapon skill additions were added to the game and I came across a bug that caused him to lose a weapon that I would like to have replaced because it's a pain in the ass to craft them at the forge.

My warrior walks around normally with his greatshield out and weapon hand empty. He starts off using SHIELD BASH in an attempt to at least stun, but hopefully knock his target prone. Then he wears the shield, grabs his THW and HURLs it at the target.

When he hurled the weapon at the troll, the troll evaded and then it prompted the info about using OVERPOWER

For some reason the game has lost my elegant rhimar warsword. It is not on my recoverable list of items. I didn't move rooms, the weapon just vanished due to the OVERPOWER option that came up when the troll evaded my HURL attempt with it.

I spent hours in the forge crafting these 4 blades (this was before the RT reduction to forging was put in place). I was hoping to get some perfects out of it, but I only ended up with elegant version of the rhimar, zorchar, gornar and drakar warswords.

I'd like to have this weapon replaced and I want to make sure you guys can look into the bug that caused my weapon to vanish due to the new weapon skills that can trigger opportunities for use of OVERPOWER (and the bug may apply to other new weapon skills too)

Ok, that is a pretty cool style. Awesome concept.

Usually, when a projectile disappears into the environs, you have to search for it. I agree that recover hurl should probably still track it, and return it, somehow. But if you haven't left the room yet, try a search.

I forgot about having to search due to HURL supposedly being linked to the RECOVER verb. I guess this odd issue slipped past then when updating code.

The GMs got it sorted and found the weapon hiding, so that's good. Saves me time and possibly lots of rhimar slabs for trying to create a new blade of elegant or maybe prefect (if I get lucky) quality.

Hopefully they'll get it sorted and squash this little bug.

Hopefully 'hurl' mechanics will get reviewed properly, too, for things like
- "weightless ammunition" (same as Ranged)
and
- "unlimited ammunition" (same as Ranged)
and
- "DS while doing it" (same as Ranged... except hurled doesn't have the physical prop of "a bow" to justify it).

.

And GMs should see also my recent requests to update the Tinnoc Boxes (from 2005 Wavedancer).

I'm pretty sure I still have the glyphs for warswords in my locker and I'm in the forge a lot anyway. If you send a message to my play.net I'll hold onto any rhimar I find next DR and craft it into however many warswords I can manage before the glyphs crumble. Not gonna just give away perfects, but you can have as many of the ones below that quality as you want.

I appreciate the offer, but it's not needed.

I got all sorts of glyphs floating around between a couple of characters. It's just the process of trying to get best pieces made...sometimes you can go through a few hundred pounds of ore before you get one and other times you can get 3 best pieces in a row. I just wasn't wanting to waste unnecessary slabs on a character I drag out to play a few hours once every other month. Now that the GMs figured out how to find my missing weapon for me (forgot you used to have to search for them and that was changed not too long ago, surprisingly how fast you can forget things) and the weapon is back in his hands, it saves me time and material for having to try and make a new one.

I'm stilling trying to figure out how to find a way to script all the shield bashing and hurling into one SF script ever since the maneuvers were updated and the wording was changed for some cman and shield skills; such as shield bash. Key phrases I was using that made everything flow properly are gone and now my scripts just hang....it's irritating. I'd probably play this guy more if I could find a way to get the scripts to flow correctly for stancing, bashing, hurling, recovering and so on. Using this unique hunting style requires way too much typing to be enjoyable, so you have to script it enough so you don't develop carpal tunnel after a couple of hunts. Even trying to setup macros is annoying, constantly having to dance between 6 different macros to get the needed various results is annoying.

That does definitely seem like a bug.

As for the comments about hurling needing an update, that's perhaps true, but consider that while it's a difficult, expensive path, it has really great rewards in its synergy with another fighting style. Yes I pay extra to throw an OHE around by having to train in two styles, and yes I pay extra in that hurling has a hybrid bonus cost that includes twice as many skills and stats in the equation, but I get some pretty big bonuses in return. I can swing that weapon or throw it with good results in either case. That's worth paying for, and should not come cheaply. I appreciate the arduous nature of the path and the rewards are pretty solidly commensurate.

With a quick flick of your wrist, you deftly send an elegant rhimar warsword into flight.
You throw an elegant rhimar warsword at a forest troll!
Nearly insensible, the forest troll wildly blocks the missile with her shield!
You could use this opportunity to Overpower!
Momentum carries an elegant rhimar warsword past a forest troll to land nearby.
Roundtime: 6 sec.

This time the weapon didn't vanish into the environs, it just landed on the ground whereas any creature or person could just pick it up. I had to kill a troll and get it back.
