So a shield can be temporarily augmented to +20 with flares, or a suit of armor or a helmet, greaves, etc. Similarly the duration is dependent on level and training of the caster. It's intended for temporary use in a pinch and to help lower level hunters out who may have limited coins or want to experiment with the way their build is working out, whatever.

409 and 415 are both awesome. If 415 were put into 409 then the way it's cast could determine mana cost and the level of effect. Thus you might get a 415 if EVOKED at a base of 15 mana and a regular E-blast if cast or incanted. It seems a bit archaic the way these slots are used with the news ways the casts can be made.
