Near misses and dark secrets 12/19/2017 07:45 PM CST
I very recently learned the Voln Symbol of Transcendence and have had cause to activate it several times since. While I don't think I would have died from the following clip without it, it certainly would have made for a more exciting few rounds...

[Yander's Farm, Barley Fields]
The tight lines of barley plants arc to the northwest and south. A large number of heavy rocks infest the area, and the number of barley plants is reduced proportionally. The rocks stick up from the soil at odd angles. Some are long and thin, protruding more horizontal than vertical. Others are just strangely shaped, as if some rock-eating creature had come along and taken big bites out of them. Still others are just normal, everyday, run-of-the-mill, round boulders. You also see a dark orc.
Obvious paths: south, northwest

>A dark orc swings a crudely forged iron halberd at you!
You easily block the attack with your white vultite greatshield!

>stance off
You are now in an offensive stance.

>amb
You fail to find an opening for your right-handed strike.
Roundtime: 12 sec.

A great boar barrels in!

>symbol of transcendence confirm
With difficulty, you manage to will yourself into the space between the corporeal and ethereal realms.

A dark orc swings a crudely forged iron halberd at you!
AS: +167 vs DS: +119 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +93 = +166
... and hits for 36 points of damage!
Wild attack passes through your right leg, viciously assaulting the air!

>stance defensive
You are now in a defensive stance.

I also finally have an appreciation for the bug that I've seen reported around ambushing and shield use... Why am I being thrown into extensive round time instead of making an ambush attack here?

At any rate, synbol of transcendence for the hardcore WIN!

In other news... I think my warrior has a hoarding problem...

Thinking back, you recall the contents of your locker in Mist Harbor:

In a deep chest:

Due to the volatile atmosphere, random bolts of lightning can intermittently be seen streaking through the skyline.

Because you are not well enough trained for the shot you are trying to make, and because there is a bug that strikes shield users in that situation. Its particularly obnoxious for giants because their training gets capped well below that of other races and they can never be well enough trained. Other races will only see it when they start trying to aim, but a giant gets affected by it at cap.
