HARDCORE Baubles and Heirlooms Competition 11/14/2017 08:38 AM CST
For this HARDCORE competition, the goal is to collect an object or bundle of objects possessing the highest value possible under a set of fixed conditions.

What is eligible PART ONE - There are TWO different categories of items for this competition. The first category includes weapons, shields, armor, enhancive items, jewelry, and GM Boxfound items. If you feel this list is incomplete, let me know and i’ll consider adding to it.

What is eligible PART TWO - The second category of eligible items include skins (up to a bundle of 10), gems, scrolls, non-jewelry magical items, alchemy items, and clothing/containers. The only item which may be stacked in order to increase its value are skins. Again, if you feel this list is missing a type of item similar to those listed, let me know and it may be added.

Rules:

1. The item in question cannot be obtained via purchase from the pawnshop or NPC store. All other rules of the HARDCORE competition in terms of gaining items also apply.

2. Any item found since the beginning of the HARDCORE competition is eligible, but you must still have it in your possession. The item must remain in your possession until the end of the competition in order to remain eligible.

3. You may enhance the worth of the item via any means available to you as a player, including the utilization of merchant services. The most obvious method would be via Bard Purification Song (1004). Premium Point enhancement is NOT permitted.

4. You may take advantage of the Trading skill, Citizenship, Enhancives, and Racial Bias in order to get the best possible appraisal for your item. However, it must be your HARDCORE character doing said appraisal.

5. For items worth more than the 35k that the pawnshop will give you, the Bard sung value will be used instead.

6. Free to Play (F2P) entries will be judged separately from non-F2P entries. Assuming two or more entries are submitted for each category (via separate players) they will be eligible for their own separate prize pool.

Prizes - The winner of each category will receive a 2 million silver prize as well as their addition to the HARDCORE Competition Leaderboards. The prize will be given to a non-HARDCORE character of your choosing.

Deadline - The deadline for the competition is 2 weeks from today, 28 November 11:59 PM EST.

Method of Entry - You may enter the competition by submitting a log of your item’s appraisal or if appropriate, Bard Song value to this thread. Note that the winning item’s value WILL be verified.

Feel free to ask questions, comment, or make suggestions to this competition in this thread.

Good luck!

nice idea, and good to see the encouragement to do things other than grind mummies continuing ;)

Currently at about 8k on a bit of magic jewelry and 2k on a gem, though it might be interesting to see what a bard said my holy symbol was worth. Getting them via 325 can be very expensive.

I expect the winning item will be something found with enhancive properties on it.

Yep. That's why there are two separate competitions. One involving equipment and jewelry, and the other involving smaller items that would be difficult to hit the 35k cap.

I found a circlet in a box today valued at 19.5k That is by far the most valuable thing I have found to date!

You have to keep it until it can be verified at the end of the competition if you mean to enter. Same with the non-equipment part of the contest. I have a feeling someone is going to win with a rock crystal the way everyone is so starved for silver.

I just purchased my 4x brig armor at the pawn...

>bank account
You currently have the following amounts on deposit:

United City-States Bank: 2898
Four Winds Bank: 703
Total: 3601

You currently have 0 inter-town bank transfer options available.

But as it happens... I DID locker that item just in case (and yes it was very tempting to sell it for the silver right now).

Several goals accomplished today! Upgraded Shield and Armor to 4x (and jumped to brig from doubles). Ranks 5 in VOLN.

Nice rock crystal if it can beat my pink sapphire. (Roughly 3k gem and 18k jewellry are my current items) I really want 319 before trying some of the places with the higher loot at this level though, and that's not going to happen in the next couple of days.

I pulled a jewelry item that's probably going to sing above 50K.

>app pend
You ask Etaenia to appraise a carved leopard quartz pendant.
The jeweler Etaenia takes the leopard quartz pendant and inspects it carefully before saying, "I'll give you 14711 for it if you want to sell."

>PART TWO - The second category of eligible items include skins (up to a bundle of 10), gems, scrolls, non-jewelry magical items, alchemy items, and clothing/containers.

>app tusk
You ask Etaenia to appraise a petrified mammoth tusk.
The jeweler Etaenia takes the mammoth tusk and inspects it carefully before saying, "I'll give you 5562 for it if you want to sell."

...

The pendant is a pretty low bar, but the tusk is decent although a skinner in the right place ought to beat anything a gem can do.

It appears as if the top entries for the Baubles and Heirloom competition were Ardkor with a tusk worth 5562 silver and Mirienda with a 200k enhancive stickpin. I’ll be attempting to get ahold of both players to verify their entries in the near future. If you believe you submitted an entry worth more than either of the two items above, please let me know. Remember, the entry must have been submitted to one of the three threads on or before 28 November 2017.

Its sitting in my Mist Harbor locker, (those things are HEAVY), but I'm moving around picking off undead I haven't notched yet at the moment. Currently in Vaalor and pondering whether to try to collect some from the Weald, but unless its richer and safer than I remember, I'll be back Landing/Icemule sometime tomorrow (Dec 1st).

Khrayla had a big night last night and it's been about three weeks since I last provide any updates so thought it was time to check in again...

Last time I posted, Khrayla has just dinged 10 and acquired 4x brig and greatshield (Wooo!). However, as I am attempting to advance in the Order of VOLN and need to be able to bless my own weapon, I've continued using an Imflass (+12) handaxe to hunt (since you need to have 10 steps in VOLN in order to bless a 4x weapon.

So last night, presently at level 14, Khrayla finally achieved her 10th step in VOLN! Upon completing the required task I immediately splurged on a chronomage day pass to go weapon shopping in Ta'Illistim. I'd spent some time earlier this week determining what weapons I want to settle on going forward and ended up with a pearly white (compliments of the dyer) vultite axe. I can't recall the last time I was this excited about acquiring a 4x weapon! To further celebrate the occasion, I returned to Ta'Vaalor and immediately visited the temple to consecrate my new weapon and begin the bonding process! All in all a big day for personal accomplishments!

Challenges / Training:

Aside from focusing on VOLN so I could FINALLY make use of a 4x weapon I also decided that I really did need to address my defenses. Over the past 4 levels I've been pushing my shield use training to the point where it is now just 1 rank shy of 3x trained. Between that and the judicious use of small statues (which I scavenge from pawnshops and hoard like leprechauns gold) I'm able to fairly easily survive those occasions where I find myself on the ground in full offensive with a couple of critters playing Kick the Khrayla (bone golems like to knock you over, dark vysan have a couple different spells to knock you over and stance you to offensive). While I try to avoid ending up in these situations at all, my goal is to make sure I have enough defense that when they do happen (because they will) I'll be able to at least crawl away to heal.

Funds:

So I was pretty much back at near 0 when I purchased my shield and armor. Last night my new vultite axe set me back around 90k or so (once you factor in the half-krol "discount" you receive in the Elven Nations) leaving me still up 270k for my current efforts (saving towards my next armor goal of MBP). I also have a nice hoard of small statues that I've found or (mostly) purchased from the pawnshop, a couple of ruby amulets, and a bunch of scrolls I am hoping to one day be able to use (not any time soon based on my few early attempts).

Next steps:

- Continue focusing on VOLN advancement.
- At 15, begin focusing on Warrior guild skills. Primarily berserk and warrior tricks.
- Fully bond to my weapon (this will require further training to achieve but I can start on it now).
- Get to 17 so I can unlock more Shield Maneuvers (required for shield focus rank 3).

Glad to see you moving forward and now have some competition from the spawn of Hartkorre. Best to keep up the pace if you don't want to get lapped!
