Kroderine Soul is a new combat maneuver for squares that grants benefits for forsaking magic and is now available on all instances. CMAN HELP KRODERINESOUL output is listed below for your convenience. Enjoy!

Type: Active Buff
Other Requirements: Forsake all magic.
Available to: Warriors, Rogues, Monks
Combat Maneuver Points:
Instant migration for this skill is enabled.
Rank 1: Free
Description: Your soul is forged from anti-magic kroderine.
Mechanics: When learned, this skill may not be unlearned without using a FIXSKILL. Physical damage reduction is increased and will now apply to all sources of damage (including magical damage). Any hostile spell effects will have their duration capped at 20 seconds. Beneficial magic from most sources will fail entirely and you are unable to self-cast any beneficial magic. If you learn a spell from any source these benefits are immediately lost.

Finally, you gain access to two additional abilities:
Absorb Magic: Absorb the next harmful spell cast at you and revitalize yourself.
Dispel Magic: Dispel all negative magic affecting you.

for others who are thinking about becoming a kroderine soul:
1) No more self cast, even from x/day items (yes Clunk has an undisease ring)
2) No more eating herbs - healers are your friend
3) Self-cast items no longer work
4) No more fussing at folks who cast spells on you, then spending for the dispel items
5) Voln symbols still work (yay! Voln is not magic)
6) Thinking still works - even think location - send and receive


... and when I learn more, will share.


Have not tried my warhorn yet, nor noted any changes to the Voln armor

This is fixed. There was a class of herbs I had missed. You should be able to eat all herbs now.

Documentation on these is a bit thin, which is too bad. They are activated with CMAN DISPEL and CMAN ABSORB. You do not have to train in them as cmans; they are automatically trained once you learn Kroderine Soul. Cman dispel will remove any spells (although positive spells should not work at all, if they are on you, they will be removed by cman dispel in addition to any negative effects). Cman absorb will cancel one spell cast at you instantly. In my experience, it doesn't appear to absorb bolts; just spells that are not AS/DS. You then gain temp hit points and an AS boost. Both abilities have a short cooldown; you can use them frequently but not constantly.

Did some experimentation on the test server. If there's one change I'd recommend, it would be to work on a reduction of maneuver penalties due to wounds. The implementation of them has always had unforeseen consequences (far less work for empaths), and it's an even bigger problem with Kroderine Soul. With no spell protection, you get far more wounds, and at the same time you rely more heavily on maneuvers. Kroderine Soul takes us back to an age when redux was much better, but maneuvers didn't exist back then, and it was common to come back to town bleeding severely. You just can't do that today, unless you want to give up on both spells AND maneuvers.

Wouldn't this be a great opportunity to team up with an empath and have them use their IMPRINT ability on you before you head out hunting?

My experience as a rogue with 21M experience using Kroderine Soul has been mostly positive. Going from 70 spells to 0 along with open combat to stealth was a huge change, but I really like CMAN DISPEL and CMAN ABSORB. There are two areas, however, where Kroderine Soul is clearly not working for me.

The first is spell damage. While it's great that concussion damage is significantly lower with KS running, even the lowest endroll on warding spells is resulting in minor/major wounds. This has significant impact on both the ability to use combat maneuvers and the need to be constantly munching herbs in dangerous hunting grounds. Here are a couple examples:

A grizzled fetish master claps its palms together, momentarily uniting its glowing tattoos before forcefully thrusting its hands forward toward you!
Dozens of long thorns suddenly grow out from the ground underneath your feet! One of the thorns jabs into you!
... hits for 5 points of damage!
Your vultite disc armor seems to deflect some of the thorns.
... 1 point of damage!
Nice shot to the head gouges your cheek!
You are stunned for 2 rounds!

Rank 2 head wound from a spike thorn on 47% nature resistant plate armor.

A fallen crusader gestures sharply toward you!
A fallen crusader's eyes glow with silvery grey light, and then everything around you shimmers to match the argentine color.
CS: +405 - TD: +348 + CvA: -25 + d100: +70 - -5 == +107

Kroderine Soul should have the same impact on spells that Redux has on physical damage: reduce the concussion damage and reduce/negate the wound. That it doesn't do this is really, really shortsighted in my opinion. You're all aware how huge an impact wounds have on squares, especially ones who rely on maneuvers and stealth. Please give this another look.

The second issue is around locksmithing. My rogue has a 55 bonus to dexterity and 303 ranks of picking/disarm/perception. I can't open a lot of the boxes from plane four and plane five of the rift now due to 403/404 being inaccessible. A master locksmith should not need to rely on magic to pick their own boxes. I know that, thematically, you don't want to let kroderine soul users have access to any spells. Fine, I get it.

So how about if a rogue has kroderine soul active, their ranks in Lock Mastery contribute a bonus to pick/disarm that match or exceed 403/404? Give me a way to open these boxes without having to dump them in the pool. This is a nontrivial amount of training points being committed to locksmithing; making someone choose between opening their own boxes and using Kroderine Soul is not good design.

All things considered, Kroderine Soul is a very interesting and challenging addition to the game. It's right up my alley, in fact, so I'll be sticking with it for a bit longer. But I really hope staff considers my feedback and makes some additional adjustments. Thank you for your consideration.

First let me state that I believe the underlying concept of Kroderine Soul is a good one.

Issues (in my opinion):

1. Perhaps there should be the ability to turn it off / on, perhaps with a long cool down (hours?)when alternating on/off.
2. Spiritual assistance, unstun for example, perhaps should be able to touch even the hardest souls.
3. The parallel to "shield mind" is noted. Short duration, manually triggered, abilities are simply ineffective. People can't react fast enough.

I think you’ll find cman absorb way better than shield mind. The latter was really only useful when uphunting because it works regardless it f level, but is super limiting. Cman absorb is short cooldown and buffs you, and you don’t have to wait in defensive.

There’s no real need for unstun to work on KS. That’s why it shortens and caps duration on debuffs. The lack of it makes maneuver like stunman and berserk more important as status breakers. And cman dispel is great for webs, binds, slow, etc.

Won't help with all boxes, but don't forget you can wedge boxes that are too hard to pick. Can even be safely used on some boxes that are trapped (needles, jaws, some vials...)

Yes, I am well aware of wedges. They are, however, problematic.

For one, they can quickly lead to encumbrance issues. I asked staff to look at making them bundle-able on these very forums, but nothing has come of that. For two, there's no experience to be gleaned from wedging. Great, it opens the boxes, but I can do that with zero picking ranks, too. If I'm committing the TPs of 303 ranks of picking to this ability, I kinda expect to be able to use it in my own hunting grounds without feeling like a scrub.

Hit with curse....dispel seemed to activate on the messaging above but the scratching and digging carried on like normal for several minutes after. It even charged me stamina for using it.

Curse typically cannot be dispelled by any means. It's a very peculiar spell/effect in that way.

Loving Kroderine Soul so far! I have a character who is a kroderine soul "native" (ie: I put kroderine soul on her at level 0) and have tested it a lot vs. Sirens (both the absorb and the dispel functions). Looking forward to seeing how well it functions as she progresses. This is like a dream come true for me since I always play claidhmore warriors that don't use spells at all.

Just another request to please review locksmithing under kroderine soul. It's really cruddy not being able to open your own boxes with a 303 pick, 303 disarm, 303 perception build. I'm having to craft an absurd amount of wedges. Lock and Trap Lore should not be necessary for a master locksmith.

Here's another bump to request a review of Kroderine Soul's impact on locksmithing. The lack of lock/trap lore is impossible to overcome with enhancives and training. I don't think this makes a lot of sense thematically and it's certainly detrimental to my enjoyment of locksmithing considering how many more lockpicks I'm now breaking. Having to toss a third of my boxes into the picking queue is really disheartening.

Blink weapon is not working with kroderine soul. It attempts to flare, but gets stopped. This in itself is an issue, but it causes another issue, when my blink weapon attempts to flare during a multistrike, it will quit the multistrike. I bugged this, but it's a huge pain and hindering my hunting. Are there any plans to fix this?

Reviving an older topic: could there be an exemption made for Solace (1140) to bypass Kroderine Soul? KS does not block imprinting so for consistency it should not block Solace either.

(I've also heard mention that it would be nice if the muscle relief aspect of Adrenal Surge (1107) would work, at least if activated using potions.)

I have been testing Kroderine Soul for the last 4-5 weeks and overall I am generally satisfied with it. Both my AS and DS take a hit not having any spells, but the additional physical redux (plus magical redux) help compensates for that reasonably well.

A couple of areas of feedback:
1. Please allow the manually triggered KS items (dispel and absorb) to work during a berserk. My warrior berserks all the time when hunting so not being able to trigger these during berserk makes them kind of useless
2. We need some way to deal with overexertion (popped muscles) with KS. Adrenal Surge (1107) doesn't work when cast on at him. And there are no herbs or other things to eat to get rid of it. We just have to wait out the 10-minute cooldown which is kind of frustrating, especially when it happens mid-hunt. Thematically using adrenal surge seems more like healing than pure spellcasting, because it is fixing popped muscles, so wondering if it could be made to work with KS. Or some other alternative besides just waiting out the 10-minute cooldown.

Do potions work? You can make an adrenal surge potion with Alchemy. I have several.
