What to backtrain for PvP? 10/18/2009 03:29 PM CDT
I just started playing DR again after years away. My WM is from the era when TM was pretty weak and ice patch, leather armor, hiding and longbow were the paradigm for PvP combat as a WM. It seems a lot has changed.

I'm currently backtraining all four metal armors, shield and light crossbow. Are there any other skills that are important to pick up?

Thanks in advance.

Reroll to a thief, or a moon mage if you train it right. Mainly just reroll to a thief though.

Hiding will always be awesome.

Light Cross trains much slower than a melee or thrown weapon, but range is very useful. A combat rewrite is rumored, so I recommend training a small variety of melee and range weapons, as you don't know what will be better tomorrow.

More armors the better, it keeps you adaptive, see above.

A war mage's best PvP is through our disablers (TC,ANC,VERT,SD,Tingle) which are mostly contests of stats. The more TDPs you can gain from training a variety of skills, the higher your stats, the better to disable an opponent. Magics, of course, play into this too.

Make sure you utilize the hunt verb while hunting. Keep your perception high, it's your only defense against thieves. Pick up HT as Avrii suggested, i find it that it's much easier to spam throwing a thrown weapon then deal with aiming and firing one despite the greater accuracy. For a WM you want to use your weapons in tangent with your magic. So disabling your opponent followed by a targetted attack and spamming throw hammer/spear while your opponent is stunned will go a long way.

If you're backtraining shield and LX anyways i'd suggest doing HT and you might as well do another weapon too if you're in a different hunting ground. Make sure you're training brawling too.
