This may have already been answered someplace, but what will take the place of mech lore when creating familiars when it finally goes away?

Engineering. You can use it now, and it takes less ranks to carve a familiar than mech. I think I carved my first fir fam around 80 ranks.

That's what I was afraid of...didn't want a reason to train Engineering. Oh well.

You could always just train mech and convert it. Either way, engineering is easy for the first 60-80 ranks. Get a saw, drawknife, and forage a branch, limb or log. Cut it 3 times with the saw then the knife then toss the lumber.

Oh it's not hard to train, just that when I start working something like that, I feel the need to never stop. OCD or something. But, it looks like base runestones and such are created with Engineering and I intend to use Enchanting when it comes out, so maybe there's more reason for Engineering after all.
