when you get on board, they left my caravan behind...

Your covered caravan wandered down a metal ramp, following you.
>go barge
One of the barge's crew members watching the dock helps you aboard, directing you towards the center of the large flatbed craft.
["The Suncatcher"]
The Suncatcher barge is made up of a wooden flatboat mounted atop steel rails. An elevated platform at the front of the craft is used by the team of Sand Elves that sail it through the desert ocean by controlling the team of massive yeehars that pull it. The barge itself is full of coils of rope, wooden crates and barrels, and bulging sackcloth. You also see a barge platform.
Obvious paths: none.
>
A shrill whistle pierces the air and a voice calls out, "Cast off!" The Sand Elves quickly rope off access to the barge.

couldn't they, having escorted me aboard, SEE that big dang caravan that was following me and let in on as well????

I ran into that before, when the sand barges were much slower. No fun!

Fortunately, there is a relatively quick fix now; Jump off the sand barge ant the oasis, and hop on the sand barge heading back toward your caravan.

Good luck!

Quicker fix is taking the Velakan trade route instead of the sand barge. I think that it takes escaping to move through it. I can take the first part from Hvaral to Oasis but not from Oasis to Musarpi.

Basically the way it is set up is that your caravan(or horse) can follow you anywhere following the "attached room" principle. The code looks to see if you are in a room "next" to the room the caravan is in. It does not care about obstacles or roundtimes. It just follows.

This allows for caravans to do things that do not make sense roleplaying wise. The GMs have not given their approval of it, but neither have they come out and said "Don't do this." But the they have changed things because of things that have happened.

One of the things was my caravan climbing over the Shard walls. Totally unrealistic. I went and did it anyways because I thought what the heck and as citizen I should be allowed through the gates. Which is basically what happened. No one can now climb from outside the Shard gates to the inside. But as a citizen I can ask for the gates to be opened so my caravan can enter. Its a case of mech abuse that wasn't punished but they changed things because it wasn't right. Though this was just one of the reasons it was changed and probably not the major one.

Along these lines are barges. When a barge is docked it is considered "next room." Therefore it can follow you. But as soon as the "Cast off!" is announced, the barge enters a different "space". Not sure what that is, but it is not "attached" or "next room" to anything until it docks.

As an example, you can jump from one ferry to another going from Crossing to Leth. But your caravan will not follow you when you jump. It is a special mechanics that lets you do it. The rooms(one ferry and the other ferry) are not considered attached rooms. Its a special mechanic. This doesn't happen alot, but there are places your caravan will not follow because of this. I agree that it be nice if it was made that if you made a barge, your caravan made it also. The thing is that this in not a easy solution coding wise.

Wow this is a long answer to a complaint and comment, but hope it explains some things.

So what happens to your caravan when you jump ship?
