Alteration Policy: Eth'ral'khh 10/31/2015 06:05 PM CDT
>>Badgopher: I know DR has a standard 'no runes, glyphs, sigils, etc.' policy in alterations. Every game I've ever played though, copied Norse style runes for dwarven languages. Is haakish written in common-style letters (the same way we can use English characters to approximate Spanish words), or is it written in the dreaded runes? I.e. if I wanted to inlay dwarven for 'army' into my sword, would it be a haakish rune/sigil/etc., or would it just be 'army' in haakish (haast)?

I had a similar question about incorporating Eth'ral'khh (the written language of the S'Kra Mur) into an alteration, since their writing is explicitly described as being composed of "elaborate glyphs."

>>Eth'ral'khh is a logographic writing system composed of elaborate glyphs, mostly ideograms, that has been in use for centuries. Examples of the writing may be found embossed into Dragon Priest gear, or painted on the palace walls in Ratha. It is commonly described as sinuous or serpentine.

I can't speak for the general case of Eth'ral'khh. Here's how my own alteration involving Eth'ral'khh ended up:

>Soft grey wisps, like smoke trapped in clear glass, peek out through layered twists of raw nightreaver silk pinned to the long smokewood haft. The vibrant green senci head appears perfectly carved, accented by the shimmering veins within the stone and casting a fluid sheen on the inky glaes bindings. Sinuous Eth'ral'khh encircles the initials "D.D." which have been chiseled with delicate precision on the maul.
There appears to be something written on it.

read maul
A war maul reads:
"Pivo'hhr'shuzh Saran'pon'hhs'igen"

Exact reasoning at the time was "We can add Eth'ral'khh, but they cannot be glyphs. Glyphs and runes are reserved for magical items only and generally only on items that have them already."

This view may have since changed/been elaborated upon/just applied in my particular case.
