After Gwen Fens 10/23/2014 04:47 PM CDT
I've had my fill of swamp trolls, small peccaries and fendryads. Fendryads are still teaching me my defenses, but I hardly get beyond dabbling when it's a swamp troll and don't learn with peccs.

Where to next?

Probably better to just post numbers, since there are a couple of different subsets of pecs/trolls.

baby/fledgling gryphons is a good step up from there. Perhaps orc bandits and warcats to ease the transition. Warcat magic could be a pain though.... Right next door in Rossmans from where you're hunting.

All defences in the 250s. Backtraining weapons in the 180s, bow in the 230s.

If you do boxes, forest geni would be almost perfect for you except for maybe needing to disable them in order to hit with your lowest weapons depending on how high your weapon masteries are.

1st Highest: Melee Mastery - 273
2nd Highest: Missile Mastery - 259
3rd Highest: Bow - 233

I do boxes and am sitting at 162 for Locksmithing

You should do just fine in genis. Boxes will need to be done carefully, but are doable. The only thing genis don't have is skinning, although there's a trickle of exp from the occasional black leucro spawn. They do have quite high perception for their level, but being a ranger that shouldn't be a problem stealth-wise for you at all.

The other suggestion would be one of the orc/warcat combos up by Rossman's. I suspect the ones just beside the rope to Theren (bandits), but I'm not 100% sure of how they actually train in 3.0 yet.

Oh, and if you need something to bridge the gap weapon-wise, elder brocket deer west of Langenfirth might work. You might even still train defenses in there.

Thanks. I might try the deer first to see how I handle them. You guys have been a great help.

If you the warcat/orc route, be aware that the warcats have a hypnotizing ability that I found annoying at the earliest period of hunting them. IIRC discipline needed to be at least 20 to help against them but I could be wrong. Anyone know what you need to get by the warcats hypnotizing? I can't be very specific when I first started, combat and our spells were different (crowd control was a lot easier) and I tended to hunt with a moon mage which helped (CS ruled).

It's definitely changed now. I think I needed an average of 30 in int/dis/wis to resist it a couple months ago.

Change---now I really feel old. But not ready for the rocking chair or the old ranger's cabin--yet.
