Ranger where... 02/27/2011 03:34 PM CST
I wouldn't say my Ranger is messed up, but I am curious to see what's what and where to go. Feels like I was in black leucros for about 20 circles though. Not sure what else might be around, but I figured I'd ask to see what fun stuff I can go hunt around various places. Not to mention, I'm quite a bit fuzzy on names / critters so wherever they are would be super too.

baby/fledgling gryphons, red leucros, orcs & war cats in the rose thicket, forest geni are all good around your ranks.

grphons & red leucros are in shard area
gryphons, orcs, & geni are in theren area

make sure you are careful though, my defenses were way over what I needed to hunt there when I had 200's in weapons.

are you aware of the new depart mechs? depart items will make trying stuff out much easier.

To be honest I think you'll get slaughtered in gryphons, red leucros and orcs/warcats. I'd say get your secondary weapons, defenses and stealths up to 200 (check out bloodvines and tresses in P5, small peccaries in Lang and possibly the lower tiers of brocket deer west of Lang; http://www.elanthipedia.com and http://www.elanthipedia.com/RanikMaps are the best resources around these days).

You're also going to maintain minimal competence in a second armor with the (formerly) new reqs, so you might as well get shield up to level or add another armor besides leather.

Rangers have TM spells now (Eagle's Claw and Devitalize) if you want to train that skill, since they can't kill things with BB/HB/etc. anymore, although the free spell Energy Bolt should serve you well if you just want to train TM (spam cast it at min prep).

A nice way to gain stalking/perception/scouting exp in combat is to HUNT every 90 seconds; you can track down anything you see by following that up with HUNT #.

Good to see you back. I remember Hawkman from the AOL days (used to play Zahash/Thilan). If it makes you feel better I always thought you were a lot higher circle than you are ;P

I did warn him that my defenses are a bit high.... Though to be fair, I was hunting red leucros with everything lower than he has just fine. The rose thicket orcs and warcats are on par with red leucros as far as I can tell.

Besides, there is a tradition to uphold!

Welcome back Hawkman! I think I welcomed you back before but in case I didn't...(sorry on pain meds right now and fuzzy).

I agree though that genis, gryphons and orcs/warcats are a bit above you right now. Also be aware that warcats have a mesmerizing spell that unless you have good discipline, you can just stand there and let the dang thing rip your heart out. They also try to creep up on you so be awake when you do take them on.

P5 would be great for you I think. Bloodvines, tresses and dryads should train you up and when you can do blight ogres really safely, you can take on baby gryphons (or at least I did after a stint with baby peccs and fenrydads.

Just remember that bloodvines, tresses and dryads SOUND easy but aren't in P5. Heck don't tangle with the black goblins either. And don't stand around sleeping during the night without armor on and shield up and a weapon out so you can combat the bats that attack. More than 1 person has died just sitting outside the monastery in P5.

If you would like..I offer to be a P5 guild for you. I love it there and the ranger guild there is the best in the lands. I can show you all the trails too.

Best of the paths. Wind at your back. Kuniyo guide you.

Gah, forgot about that. Barn's Discipline is very high. Either that or he thinks about blood and gore too much ;-)

Hello Hawkman

Another option you might use for your blades is in Kartais in the Leth Manor. Keep in mind they are slice resistant but I think you would see your skills jump there. They web you (which works armor and escaping very well). Perfect for backtraining if you can parry their attacks while webbed.

First tier snowgoblins on Aesry would be different (again for your blades). There are three tiers there so you could move right on up the line as your skills got better.

You could hit geni with 200 ranks of longbow but they would hurt you bad if they hit you so if you do try them stay out of melee. Something else to keep in mind with them. It takes a ranger about 200 lessons with no wounds to find the trail into and out of geni. If you are hurt, that number goes way up.

Serpents and vipers in Haven would do well for your ranks as well. (they teach to about 130ish). Also Swamp trolls but last time I was there it messed up my magic.

In Lang you might want to try the peccaries and trolls there.

In Shard you might try steeds with your blades and red leucros for your bow.

That is about all I can think of at the moment.

The Geni in Therengia don't have this issue. Have to be premium though.

What you need to do is get your parry more caught up to your evasion, and throw in some shield while yer at it.

Regular black leucros should do fine and be fairly safe, although I think they cap evasion around 220.

Once you get parry into the 170-190 range, genies shouldnt be too difficult.

In with dark spirits... Past the dead-end room in the Kolfur bog, IIRC.

Few days late but, I'd go with getting shield, parry and MO up. As you get higher you won't want to live just on evasion and in leucros you can work all three easy if you play with your stances. I waited till 60th to do that and it sucked as I had to go down the critter ladder a lot to do it safely. Dryads/Nyads in Hib are a good option too as well as blight ogres there they are all around the same skill and all 3 drop boxes though ogres are the only ones skinnable. As well you have bloodvines to backtrain a lot of weapons on if you have around 30-40 agility. Can take weapons from 50ish to 130-140 fairly easy.
