Can the spawn generated by Awaken Forest train Targeted Magic when it hits at-level enemies?

I tested it right before posting, and it did not.

I tested it again just now, and it does.

Neat.

Theoretically it will teach on living, the problem is that by the time you have enough TM for your little buddy to actually consistently hit something enough to teach, you're getting close to capping TM on that critter. The POS variant is a lot more deadly so it's easier to train TM on undead/cursed.
