I have just come back to the Realms for the first time since 3.0. I never played magic users very much so I didn't even know much about training magic before, and now I'm playing a Ranger. How do you move Targeted Magic at the beginning? Just listen to classes?

To move TM (and debilitation), you'll need to treat it like any other weapon skill. Eagle's Cry is the ranger introductory TM spell.

Just go hunt rats and type 'target ec'. This will prep and target the spell in one go, at the minimum mana. You can 'target ec 10' or whatever to change the mana.

After that, it's a weapon skill. Inflict damage to train it, like any other weapon skill. After about 30 ranks, you'll be too skilled for rats.

Don't be afraid of letting your mana pool get low; it actually regenerates faster the lower it is, so you can operate on 10-20% surprisingly well.
