>>My ranger trains only hiding stalking perception evasion
and skinning as far as the survivals go.<<

Aside from perception, all skills which I assume you train while hunting. If you were a barb you could still train all these skills and advance even faster not being hampered by our slow weapon learning. By your own admission, you don't even bother with the other non-combat survival skills.

And for christsakes, your name is "halfbarb"!

And, Vision, if you read the quote you copied from my post, I don't tell you to be a barb, I ask if you considered it since like the above char your initial post suggested a disregard for all survivals non-combat related. Yes, you did post that you have trained these other survivals - but only in your response post. You don't care about circling but would like to do it faster, what part don't you care about again? If you seek to villify me for asking why you act like a barb, talk like a barb, and jump down the throat of anyone who suggests maybe you should've considered being a barb, by all means, go wild (like a barb).

Yes. I would like to be able to advance within the Guild by training the way I like to. Until that time, I take circles as they come, because I'm unwilling to change my play style.

Why does like to hunt == Barb?
I like Rangers. I like to hunt, as a Ranger. I like our spells. I like our abilities. I like our skillsets. If I wanted to be a Barb, I would have been one. I don't.

It's like this:

There are players (like Halfbarb and myself) who have a (gasp) different vision (no pun intended) of what a Ranger character can be. In our case, we see them as great hunters.
Some people keep asking themselves, "Why aren't these guys Barbarians? Barbarians hunt, Rangers do stuff like foraging and swimming! Why would they complain about circling when they could circle so much faster as Barbarians?"
Welp, luckily, in a skill-based roleplaying game like Dragonrealms, your character can be anything you want them to be. It may seem strange to hear this coming from someone who plays TF, but roll with it.
I would like to see my style of training made a more viable route to advancement within the Guild. Is this really so hard to understand? Selfish? Sure. Egotistical? Probably. But if a system like bit-based circling can make it happen, I'm all for it.

People who run outside conventional boundaries make this game more exciting. You seem to think that everyone who plays a certain Guild should train the same things, act the same way. What do you say to all those Battle Empaths who spend their days hunting? Or to someone like Ragran, who's dedicated to his thieving even though he's a WM? Or even Teeklin, who trains chain armour instead of the conventional and safe leather?

The actions of battle empaths are well within their class and don't mimic any other class. Does Ragran also practice other thief based skill sets and ignore his magic training? I disagree with Teek's philosophy but I don't say everyone is wrong but me, Teek is welcome to these opinions - but by just suggesting that there may be other options out there I am branded as someone that knows everything (used to, forgot alot) and a total jerk.

You have taken my asking a question to you as a personal affront to your way of life, I have kicked your dog of ranger creation. Or do you just have something against barbs?

Please state your answer in the form of an opinion and not a personal attack.

You seem to be having some trouble (in my opinion) grasping the concept that you don't have to be a Barb to hunt (in my opinion).

In my opinion, it all went something like this (in my opinion):

<:diddly doo: :diddly doo: :diddly doo: Wayne's World-style flashback to 2 days ago or whenever>

Me: I want to see bit-based circling because then I'll be getting credit for specialising in the combat survivals.

You: Why aren't you a Barb if you like hunting so much?

Me: Because I like hunting as a Ranger, not hunting as a Barb.

You: If you were a Barb, you could be like 20 circles higher.

Me: If I only cared about circling, I would be 20 circles higher. As a Ranger.

You: Stop being mean to me. Since you seem talk like a Barb, and walk like a Barb, you should have been a Barb.

Me: But... I don't want to be a Barb. I want to be a Ranger who hunts a lot. And still circle. You know, other Guilds besides Barbs hunt. Think outside the box and all that jazz.

You: Yeah, so... Hey, Barbs hunt a lot. You like to hunt. Why are you getting so riled up over me asking you why you're not a Barb?

Me: ...

In my opinion, that's my opinion of how this argument has progressed (in my opinion). I'm also of the opinion there's not much else to say.

PS. Don't give me credit for the thread in the Rambling folder. Wasn't me who started (and titled) it. For the record.

So, why do you hate barbs so much?

So, why do you hate barbs so much?

1. they are hard to hit.
2. they are hard to tingle or mental blast.
3. they are hard to evade.
4. they have all manner of magics <cough> i mean dances and roars.
5. im a jerk.
6. i haven't eaten today.
7. i hate one of my clients.
8. im resentful that i don't have any hair.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but i'm tired and cranky and i don't feel like telling you now.
