Tanning System Needs an Overhaul 02/05/2011 05:17 PM CST
I have over 388 ranks Mechanical Lore, 600 in Leather Armor, all skins are arrange all'd by my ranger, perfectly skinned, scraped carefully... and my dilemma is... over 70% of reinforced gargoyle leathers I've made are still coming out as "superior leathers."

The process to prepare these leathers to be made is extremely cumbersome as well.

Scraping two hides: 6 minutes
Pouring lotion on two hides: 10 minutes
Waiting for lotion to cure hides: 8 hours
Preparing leather set to be strung into leathers: 4 minutes
Stringing the set into a leather: 10 minutes (10 strings x 60sec round time each!)

That is over 30 minutes per set, wasted when they don't come out perfect...

Do I really need 700 mech to make perfect leathers? Rangers are lore tert btw.

The tanning system is in the process of a complete rewrite.

They are hardly wasted if they come out superior. The ONLY difference would be that they are a few stones heavier than a perfect. Not a big deal at all. Also, chances are you need to change your pattern out for a fresh one.

Ive always suspected patterns wore out over time. I could never tell.

After the first item, look at the pattern. It will appear a little worn around the edges.

You need to look at the pattern every time BEFORE you use it. If it is "a little worn" it's still okay to use but if it is "worn" you need to throw it away and get a new pattern. A "WORN" pattern will mess up whatever you are trying to make even if you have the skills to make perfect every time.
