Hi Everyone! 05/23/2015 09:29 AM CDT
Hello! After a 2 year absence I am back and so far having alot of fun! I missed you all and its great seeing old faces and meeting new ones!

There have been alot of changes since I left.

I'm wondering if someone could point me towards a current travel script? Mine doesn't seem to work anymore and I do not know how to make/change/update scripts.

My aim is FeliciniDR. Skype is felicini.tribal

Thanks!

Here's some travel scripts: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Category:Travel_scripts

Geni scripts can also be found on their forums if you use geni.

Here's what happened the last 2 years: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Category:DragonRealms_Updates

Welcome back!

Another question. Learning magic outside of combat. I used to cast DA and I do not seem to be learning from it. Can paladins learn magic outside of combat now? Is it only certain spells? Do I need to fool around with the numbers? Thanks

You can try casting it at higher preparation amounts or using a symbiosis. If you want the actual spell effect use more mana, if you're using it to train magics, use symbiosis. You get chaos symbiosis for free, just prep symbiosis after prepping your spell to add it in to make your spell more difficult to cast to extend the training range.

You'll have to experiment a little to see what amount you need to prepare it at, but as a rough starting point, DISCERN DA and see what your personal casting cap is. Then prep DA at around 1/3 the amount of mana of your personal cap and prep symbiosis, and cast when fully prepped.

Alternatively you could do magical research, given you have a slot to learn the analagous patterns spell Guage Flow. Guage Flow must be cast before starting research.

Combat magics (targeted magic and debilitation) can only be learned in battle by casting against an appropriately challenging opponent.

All other magic skills can be trained outside of combat. For ideal learning, cast the most difficult spell you know using as much mana as you can manage without backfiring. DISCERN [SPELL ABBREVIATION] will estimate your personal mana cap.

Elanthipedia has a list of skill and prep ranges: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Category:Paladin_spells

When training with cyclic spells, you will need to periodically re-cast the spell in order to continue learning. I do so every four minutes.

If you have very high ranks in magic, and your attunement prevents you from repeatedly casting at huge amounts of mana, symbiotic casting can help. (Symbiotic casting does not work with targeted magic or cyclic spells.)

Another high-level option is magical research.

You can learn about symbioses and magical research here: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Magical_research

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall rank!

HOW teaches warding well and I let it run for 300 seconds and drop/recast and TR teaches utility alright and I run it for about 180 seconds and recast em as necessary.
You will need to run these at high mana depending on yer magic ranks. I personally have around 1k magics and have to run HOW at 30 mana and TR around 25.

TR is more of a pain to upkeep because it pulses twice as fast as HOW which makes it more of a mana sink.

You will need to prioritize your mana in combat if you plan on using them because it makes doing debil and TM spells harder due to mana.

I personally utilize my cambrinth quite a bit for self buffs and TM because otherwise it just takes too long and fries the nerves harnessing constantly.

I just prep symbiosis before every cast. Works for me with over 1000 in magic.

Thanks so much everyone, I think I'm slowly getting there.

Is there a learning advantage to casting a cyclic spell vs a non cyclic spell? When I left we didn't have this category of spells.

Also, how do I obtain the gauge flow spell? When I came back I just took every spell that the Paladin Guild Leader had, at least I thought I did.

Thank you.

>>In the chapter entitled "Analogous Patterns", you have notes on the Lay Ward [lw], Manifest Force [maf], Dispel, Imbue, and Gauge Flow [gaf] spells.

Gauge flow is available at the magic shop in Crossing. As for Cyclic vs non-cyclic, the advantage is you can get several pulses of EXP from a cyclic. Personally I just cast spells the old fashioned way but I'm boring. I only have research for adding an agility buff for throwns.
