New to armor forging 10/08/2008 03:46 PM CDT
So, I decided to take a crack at forging today...I played with it very briefly as a paladin at much earlier levels (which is not to say I'm that big of a paladin)...and well...crack was pretty much right. I was making some steel plate gauntlets, and during the pounding got to about 2/3rds done before that muttered sigh.

My question is, obviously armor and ML ranks play a big role in it, but for the satisfaction of completion, is there a particular mix and "pattern" so to speak that would be advisable to start with? I really didn't expect to finish the gauntlets today, but I figured what the heck.

Mech lore is the key with pounding. Once I reached 200 in ML, my breakage went down dramatically (from 50-50% to around 20%).

The mix also plays a roll. Harder mixes (i.e. kertig mixes) break much more easily than soft mixes (those that have a high carbon ratio or that use a ton of dust).

My advice, use high dust mixes until you reach 200 ML. Hope this helps.
