I got some great suggestions about polearms from that specific thread. Building more upon that, what are your best suggestions of weapons to pick up for each of the different weapon skills for new players? Assuming that the new player does not have access to someone who will forge them up something nice and light for free.

This question mainly came into my head the other night when I was trying out 2HB for the first time. The weapon I got from Milgrym was prohibitively slow and heavy. Some other weapon skills I am particularly interested in are staves, slings, bows, and crossbows (since these are the weapons I haven't tried out yet); however I would be interested if anyone has a great suggestion for any of the other weapon skills as well.

I'd just suggest whipping out the wiki for weapons. Crossings gear isn't terrible any more. Most of it is on par with generic forged steel. To get lighter, you'll have to get custom forged (either through different templates or using a lower density mix).

There is a 1-handed pole weapon sold in shard for a few silver. Javelin, in the general store. Unlike short hunting spears, it will fit into backpacks/etc.

Crossings weapon shop sells parry sticks and brawling gear.

Knife clan, wolf clan, tiger clan, crossings, all have updated gear from a month or two ago.

I don't like the cooking pot lid; the gain from the hindrance drop is lower than the loss in both durability and protection. Crossings (Or knife clan...) is better.
