Spell Suggestion: Time ripples 11/22/2015 02:04 PM CST
Dependency: Unleash, Level 110.
Skill check: Esoteric sorcery, Astrology.
Cast requirements: Backlash penalty is inversely proportional to the lunar impact on attunement (low mana provided by moons = higher chance).
Availability: Unique scroll (available via special means only - roaming shop in prime, maybe (similar to extreme shop)).

Description: Moon mages have long known how to alter the future to their liking, so it shouldn't be surprised that small cults would have focused their efforts on the past rather than the future. One such cult has succeeded in seeing and manipulating the threads of fate while outside of normal time. They are unable to enact large changes or affect figures ensnarled by too many threads, or so they claim. They are, however, able to vibrate isolated threads which ripple back through time, contorting history along with it. Items or beings without much influence or impact on the realms are ideal for this process.

Base Spell: Cast Time Ripple on <item>.

Cast on a spell scroll or item generated from the treasure system.

Four possible outcomes:

Outcome 1: 25% chance: Success! You corrupt the currents of time. The spell alters the scroll, randomly changing the author's original intention, for better or worse.

Functional changes:

* AP Scroll - Nothing happens. A message about the author's mind being too dull or focused to alter.

* Treasure map, spell scroll (non-AP), treasure box, item created by the treasure system: Item is destroyed and randomly recreated or pulled from the hopper. Scrolls changed in this way have 1-5% chance to turn into a corrupted scroll (used to learn this spell, or the two meta spells).

Outcome 3: 10% chance: Sorcerous backfire (special). Your own threads are altered. Suffer either feature distortion (random), skill penalty/boost (prediction), stat penalty/boost. etc. Completely uncontrollable. Maybe bad. Maybe good.

Outcome 3: 0-30% chance (varies based on mana put into the spell): Nothing happens. You're uanble to alter time.

Outcome 4: remaining chance: Sorcerous backfire (normal): Item explodes (if cast on an item), and you suffer normal backlash. (I know this is high, even at cap, but there's a reason. See below).

Additional spells. All scrolls. All created solely by time ripple. All signature.

Time-ripple metaspell - Path Change. Adds creatures to the list of things you can alter. Flips skills at random. Very low backlash chance. Can be cast on players, but the durations are very short.

Time-ripple metaspell - Time sense. Gives a finer control over the corruption process. When cast at creatures, you can specify the skill that will be randomly swapped with another skill. Greatly reduces duration, may need to be in the same skillset. Doesn't affect learning rates (effectively a buff/nerf equal to their difference). Doesn't specify the 2nd skill. For time rippling scrolls, this lets you focus on specific mana classes (does not include other time related spells.

Seer's sense meta spell - Project thread. Allows a second roll at catastrophic backlash while see'r sense is up. It's the Khri Safe for sorcerous magic. You see that you would have done something bad, so you get a second roll to survive it (make it so that you never did it in the first place).

Seer's sense meta spell - (Requires project thread) - time walk. You've spent so much time in the past that the present is the future. Threads of time are how you see the world. You can now weaponize your backlash attempts when you succeed the foresight check. If casting a backlashing spell at a creature (sorcerous TM/debil, time-ripple) or item (time-ripple), and it backlashes, then you can tear the thing apart instead of suffering. (you tie your threads of fate together). This gives Seer's Sense a concentration drain. If you reach 0, you die (you get lost in the threads of time and your mind is torn apart). Each protection drains x concentration. That amount depends on the strength of the backlash and the power put into the spell.

Needless to say, by looking backwards you're greatly inhibiting your ability to look forwards. It will corrupt predictions.

Just thinking about the code behind this gives me a migraine.
