When can you cast tks 01/16/2016 03:35 PM CST
What are the general requirements for casting telekinetic storm? I have around 150 lunar magic and 110 targeting and it says the spell fails completely when I try to cast it. This is above the minimum reqs on elanthipedia so I'm guessing thats not accurate. Anybody know the minimum reqs for it?

Are you prepping the spell and casting it at your target or prepping the spell and targetting it and waiting for full target and casting? Or better yet, just targetting tks at creature and waiting for full target and casting?

Is your spell stance set to 130% potency?

Does Exp Mods show you under any penalties?

I was able to cast it early on at a point in line with the discern (which is what elanthipedia takes its info from.) Make sure you're both fully preparing and fully targeting it. In my opinion the best syntax to use is TARGET TKS <mana> AT CREATURES then using CAST once it is fully targeted, since this accomplishes both full target and full prepare using the least amount of time and commands. You can insert held mana and cambrinth as well if you can handle the mana.

Double check what your DISCERN says as well and compare that to the amount of mana you're putting into it. Discern tends to overestimate the amount of mana you can put into a spell a bit. E.g. If it says 30 mana then you can probably only put 27 or 28 into it.

Also, did you recently cast a ritual spell or do something else which drained your spirit, fatigue, or concentration? Spells are more difficult to cast when those are not full.

I have the opposite experience. Discern is consistently 1-2 mana below my personal cap, playing a WM. Is this a MM specific issue? Or something that starts showing up once you hit 200+ ranks in magics?

DISCERN assumes all random rolls are at half success, so if you're at a circle where that matters the estimate that shows up will occasionally backfire.

Oh, you have to target it. I didn't think you would have to target and aoe spell, heh. But that's still kind of strange isn't it? The other targeting spells don't fail completely if you don't target them? I guess tks is different.

All TM spells work on the same mechanics regardless of how many critters they can hit.

You are probably on the lower edge of being able to cast TkS. Targeting a TM spell is the same as prepping any other spell. You have the skill to snap cast your other TM spells, but you need to wait for full target/prep to cast TkS. With more skill you will be able to snap cast it.

Except cyclic spells which are just prep and cast, and spells with special mechanics such as Dragon's Breath which are just prep and cast with a secondary verb to activate the effects.
