Fortune's Path Merchant 08/25/2003 05:08 AM CDT
There was a lot more I wanted to do with this... but with College coming up quickly on me it became apparent that it wasn't going to happen. So for now (If I somehow get an extra load of free time soon perhaps I'll come back and flesh it out more) I present the Fortune's Path Merchant!

-Mozzik

Walking into the wagon, one is struck by the pronounced smell of cedar with a subtle minty undertone. The walls which were apparently once painted a vivid shade of red have faded to a dull, vaguely orange color, parts of which are peeling from the wood. Lining the walls are several shelves filled with dusty books and many odd trinkets, the once-royal blue paint on many of them almost completely worn away. Pushed up against the far wall next to an old but comfortable looking chair is a rough wooden table with several curious items seemingly on display.

On the table you see a glass tray with some stuff on it, a dusty wooden cup rack with some stuff on it, a row of books, a dusty box of teabags, a large brightly colored box, and a small wood stove.

look shelves:
On closer inspection, the shelves appear to have once been edged with a pattern of gold leaf, most of which has been long since chipped away.

look tray:
The faint image of a Tokka card can be made out in the frosted glass.

look rack:
The rack seems to be more functional than aesthetically pleasing. Three rows of hooks serve to safely store teacups when not in use.

look dusty box:
Burned into the old wood of the box is a Tokka card overlain by a vaguely web-shaped design.

look large box:
Rather out of place in the muted tones of the rest of the wagon, this box is decorated with an abstract pattern that is painted with every color of the rainbow.

look stove:
Rather small and seemingly incapable of heating much of anything up, the stove sits on a far corner of the table. A small pan rests on the top.

Tea Leaves: (added to sect shop since limited uses) ? Perform readings on people to detect active predictions. Non Fortune?s path can sense (with skill checks) number of active predictions, skill set and good or bad. Fortune?s Path members with skill can also achieve duration, skill and power. This is a slow process as the tea is slowly consumed and swirled. One looks for shapes in the lumps to indicate skill, size for power, moisture for duration (Almost dry flaky ones for example would be short), and coloration for good or bad. The tea is brewed with special leaves sold in the shop (Or perhaps foragable) and prepared with water in a mildly magical cut that heats the water without needing a fire.

Coins: Special coins with a variety of effects. Possible effects include:

Forcing a certain result (either making it visibly double headed etc, perhaps even the classic edge landing)
Shifting the appearance of the coin to have different heads/tails Possible images would be webs, guild seals, sect seals. Also perhaps a shifting appearance in metal type etc.
Roshambo variant with coin flips. (this would work for non FP members)

Ideally if you called a legit flip correctly it could have some effect, perhaps shifting a prediction slightly (each time it was done the prediction becomes shifts a few ranks more towards bonus and a miscall it shifts more towards a curse) but this may be too powerful an effect.

Palm Reading Primer ? Read basic information about characters through their palms. Fluffy messages (I see a dark stranger in your future?) for all, Fortune?s path can use it to read things such as general sense of stats, death counter, other "tangibles" that one normally can't tell about another. Perhaps skills.. Major Fortune?s Path perk is the ability to sense an approximation of the prediction counter (Overall the lines of the palm seem to have taken on the appearance of a (faint/clear/deeply etched etc) web.

?Winds of Fate? ? Pouches (variety) that old dust (Gathered from the ground that turns over time into a pearly white dust?) that when a sprinkle is tossed into the air (if FP) it will swirl towards a random exit in the room (Allow Fate to Guide) non FP sprinkles it just drifts to the ground. Other ideas ? glows so can be on occasion used to find hidden exits or exits in dark/misty rooms.

Notice: These pouches are known as Fate pouches and are useful to their owner as a basic form of detecting Fate's will. One simply need store dust in the pouch long enough for the magic to seep into it (indicated by a pearly white coloration) and then cast a pinch to the winds.

Tap: a simple grey pouch with silver drawstrings.
Look: This is a simplistic grey pouch pulled tight with silver drawstrings. Small white pearls are affixed to the end of each string.

Focus:
You focus your magical senses on a simple grey pouch with silver drawstrings
The pouch has a faint magical pattern, which is apparently of a form of divination.
You recognize the pattern as a manifestation of Lunar magic.
It is apparently an enchanted item known as a Fate pouch, useful to members of the Fortune's Path sect of Moon Mages.

Verbs:
Gather: (only works outdoors, is used to refill the pouch with new dust, but any currently in the pouch will be ruined until all of it is transformed again)
Finding a suitable patch of dirt you kneel down and gather some fine dirt into your pouch.
Roundtime: 10 seconds.

Mozzik gazes around the area briefly before seemingly settling on a spot. Kneeling slightly he quickly scoops some dirt into his pouch.

Shake:
You give your pouch a few easy tosses in the air as you try to get a feel for how much dust is left. You'd guess there is enough for 4 more uses.

Mozzik throws his pouch into the air and catches it several times as if trying to get a feel for it's weight.

Pinch:
(This is only application if the dust is ready and you are of Fortune's Path. The direction it takes is random from available room exits and can include hidden exits. This will work in dark or misty rooms due to the glow and the magical nature of it's guidance.)

You open the drawstring to your pouch and reach in to take a small pinch of the pearly white dust. With a flick of the wrist you scatter it into the air. As if caught by a sudden breeze the dust swirls in the air quickly spinning around you several times, a glow slowly building inside each particle, before darting to the north before twinkling out of existence. You feel a sudden urge to travel that direction as if guided by Fate itself. Satisfied, you pull the drawstrings closed again.

Mozzik loosens the drawstrings of his pouch and withdraws a pinch of pearly white dust. With a flick of the wrist he scatters it into the air. As if caught by a sudden breeze the dust swirls in the air quickly spinning around Mozzik several times, a glow slowly building inside each particle, before darting to the north before twinkling out of existence. With a satisfied grin Mozzik pulls the drawstrings of his pouch closed again.

(If the dust in not ready or you are not of Fortune's Path)
You open the drawstring to your pouch and reach in to take a small pinch of the dust. With a flick of the wrist you scatter it into the air. The dust scatters before settling to the ground. Unimpressed, you pull the drawstrings closed again.

Mozzik loosens the drawstrings of his pouch and withdraws a pinch of dust. With a flick of the wrist he scatters it into the air. The dust scatters before settling to the ground. With a slight frown Mozzik pulls the drawstrings of his pouch closed again.

(If the pouch is empty)
You open the drawstring of your pouch and reach in to take a pinch only to find it empty! Disheartened you pull the drawstrings closed again.

Mozzik loosens the drawstrings of his pouch and feels around inside it for a moment before pulling the drawstrings tight again with a saddened look.

Put:
As you start to put your non-dust item into the pouch you get a sickly feeling in your stomach that it simply doesn't belong there and stop your attempts.

Mozzik attempts to put his non-dust item into his pouch but turns slightly pale instead and seems to change his mind.

Notes: If looked in you will be able to see if the dust has turned pearly white yet. It takes 6 hours IG (one IG day) in order for it to turn pearly white. The pouch can hold at most 25 pinches worth of dust.

Talian says, "Looks like I'm a ..gypsy at the moment I think."
Talian whispers, "Because gypsies really are the best."
