What armor do you wear?

I wear a combo of light and chain armor. I'm thinking of just going with chain because my chest seems to be the only thing that gets damaged. I have about 500 ranks in each. Is it worth loosing the tdp's to going with only one type of armor to get better defense? I wear chain on head and hands and leather on the body.

Thanks for your help!

Outside of pvp I would wear/train all 4 armors no matter what class you are. Some people clown it up and wear all 4 simultaneously and some wear fewer armor types at once and swap out greaves periodically in combat to keep all armors training.

If there are rp considerations that required less than 4 armors; I'd still train all 4 and use hiders to hide the armor that didn't fit the rp scheme.

To put the numbers in context, the difference for me at ~500 ranks in all armors is about 1 point in all stats. On the other hand, the cost of just wearing a clownsuit is negligible. You just might have to delay or be a little extra careful when you first jump to a new hunting ground (because clown suits are slightly more hindering than single-armor setups for everyone but paladins).

I, too, recommend 4 armors on every character. It's relatively easy to accomplish and, once you do, there are a number of benefits: more ranks so that you can choose to specialize later, and more TDPs (= more stat points).

My recommended setup is something like this:
- silk hauberk
- lumium ring helm
- lumium scale gloves
- lumium plate mask

In other words, cover only a TINY portion of yourself (the eyes) with plate, and a HUGE portion of yourself (the whole body, arms, and legs) with light armor. You will still learn from the smaller armor pieces but they won't hinder you very much. You should be able to get down to 6/4 hindrance in total as a tert. Using silk and lumium also helps with the hindrance, as materials like burlap and steel are more hindering.

That said, if you're not into min-maxing, this setup may not be for you. You'll do fine just choosing one armor type, as long as it's light or chain. Use light if you want stealth to be an option.

Even stealthing shadows gave me enough of an edge that I only had to resort to rising mists + shadows twice; moving up into new hunting grounds vs especially perceptive mobs.
