>Link has negative repercussions stemming back to its initial release, which was about as scandalous as the shift release. And, like shift, there are no negative repercussions that are hard coded into the system.

I think the confusion is that you guys are talking about negative social and RP associations, yes? I vaguely recall something about that as well. As far as the ability itself is concerned, on a mechanical level there are no negative consequences except for the fatigue and concentration drain.

And yes, Link was changed relatively recently so that there are no more negative boosts.

Not quite. The initial release of link came with implications that linking was a potentially dangerous activity to engage in. Its been many many years, so I forget all the details about it, maybe someone else with a better memory can recall the events more clearly than I can.

if i'm not mistaken, that was a few gamemasters ago from a gamemaster with vastly different ideas than the one we have now. since no rp type of event has been set for negative aspects of link yet, i'd say the negative aspects don't matter anymore. i do vaguely remember something like that but haven't paid much attention to it.

I was attempt to explain the reason why there is a history of apprehension regarding link, even though the majority of empaths today probably don't know details. I was not attempting to speak for how people should or should view link, players or GM's

Wasn't the Empath who first taught Link insane and locked up by the Guild? I thought the implication was that using the skill had made him unbalanced, and he was being restrained For His Own Good.

I was under the impression that that's why Link is a skill that must be learned from another Empath, rather than a Guild-taught skill.

In any case, I hope Shift eventually becomes less of an IC taboo as more Empaths gain the skill and fail to embrace the Dark Side, but I'm not holding my breath.

I remember something about someone being locked up in a wagon and liking moss or something... I'll see if I can find more about the actual event if anyone's interested. Or maybe Reexa remembers?

Nice. I had just remembered it was archived at Micwolf's site when you posted this.
