Curse traps and the need for a duration cap on cursed items and/or an NPC with uncurse 09/11/2020 04:04 AM CDT
In light of the changes over the years reducing our options for dealing with cursed items; could we see a duration cap on these item curses, so that we aren't just stuck?

Although uncurse works on most of them to shorten their durations or end them completely; all the other curses (Mime, Mana Sucker, Frog) all have limited durations that wear off eventually without uncurse except for the curse trap (items). Curse trap boxes eventually lose their curse but the items inside appear to have the only permanent trap effect status.

It would also be nice if you could visit an NPC and ask for uncurse although this would still leave Necromancer characters out in the cold. Perhaps they could hand off their cursed items to undead pets.

Right now the only ways to get rid of items sourced from cursed (trapped) boxes:

1). Find a cleric who can cast uncurse strong enough to break the curse.
2). Use the flashpoint cantrip as a WM or hand the cursed item off to a WM with flashpoint.
3). Hand the cursed item to an alt (probably going to be a throwaway f2p character and arguably mechanics abuse if we're being honest).

You used to be able to use Tingle or Mental Blast to cause someone to drop a cursed item but now those items go to the at feet slot.
You used to be able to sever someone's arm or hand and they'd drop the cursed item but since Feb 2020 those items go to the at feet slot.

While the mana requirements aren't too high; it's beyond the abilities of extremely low-level PC Clerics to break some curses.
If your character is a Necromancer you're out of luck as you can't be uncursed.
If your character is played in remote provinces or during less populated time zones it can be pretty difficult to find a cleric to uncurse you.
If you the player don't like interacting with other characters or your character is a social pariah it creates an issue where you're encouraged to abuse mechanics.

TBH they should just get rid of the majority of "you can't drop/remove this" curses as a whole. They just seem overly harsh and, per your point, unless you have access to a cleric you're just trying to game the system to get rid of the item (do something that forces an item to drop from your hand, depart without your items, pick up everything but that cursed item, give it to an alt, possibly some other things like feed it to Crossing's gelapod or whatever).

What might instead be neat is if cursed items just can't do whatever function they should have, and uncurse actually "unlocks" those items so they become usable.

For example, a cursed sword/armor might have terrible stats (like it would with Curse of Zachriedek) until uncurse unlocks it. A cursed amulet with a spell on it might not be able to get invoked until it's uncursed. A cursed gem might just have terrible value until the curse is lifted.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.
